here are some ladies out there who love working out. Despite having classes, assignments, exams and everything else, somehow they head to the gym maybe five or six times a week and somehow, enjoy it. But the secret is, that’s not everybody. Some of us, actually hate working out. So if you’re a girl who would rather stay home then at the gym pumping iron, here are nine helpful fitness tips to help you get started.

1) Set some fitness goals

When you hate working out, it’s easy to just not do it. So before you even hit the gym, you need to have some fitness goals. Rather than just aimlessly lifting dumbbells for twenty minutes, setting fitness goals is a great way to get started and stay motivated. Whether it’s a heart rate goal or a weight loss goal, start off with one or two specific fitness goals and track your progress. Just make sure to be realistic and fair to yourself, you most likely won’t lose twenty pounds in a week. From there, you have something to work towards during your workout sessions.

Before even hitting the gym, buy some new gear! Because what’s the point of working out if you don’t look cute doing it? No, but in all honestly, studies have shown that by putting on new fitness gear, you can not only prevent injury and improve performance but just like actors who put on costumes, workout clothes can make you feel more mentally prepared and more confident to workout. So whether it’s a colorful pair of leggings or a cute pair of runners, it’s a lot easier to get started when you’ve got the right clothing.

3) Make a playlist

Another great fitness tip for a girl who hates working out is to make a playlist. Rather than focusing on how many miles or minutes you have left to go on the treadmill, music is a great distraction. Plus, music while you workout can up your effort, help you keep pace and elevate your mood. Who says working out has to be all work and no play? If you’re not a fan of riding a bike for thirty-minutes, join an intramural sports team to have some fun as you get fit. Joining an intramural team is not only a great form of exercise, but it’s also a great way to relieve stress and make some new friends. Whether it’s basketball, dodgeball or another sport, take a break from school, score some points and have some fun.

An easy but rewarding way to get fit is to take the stairs. Sometimes when you hate working out, the last thing you want is to go to the gym and get stressed out and intimidated by the crowd of regular gym buffs and bodybuilders.
