20 Healthy Meals To Make On A Budget

Fixing healthy meals that are also cheap can be a bit of a challenge. These 20 dishes will give you an idea on how to clean eat on a tight budget.

1. Bacon and Avocado Grilled Cheese

If you’re used to eating healthy meals, you probably have bacon, avocados, and cheese in your fridge already. Slice up the avocados and cook up some turkey bacon to make this yummy grilled cheese.

2. Fried Rice

Let’s be honest, who doesn’t love fried rice? If you want a healthy version you can make this awesome side dish yourself! The key to this one is getting the right combination of sauces and spices, but you can find great recipes online.

3. Chili Mac

Chili almost never fills me up so this chili mac is a great option for helping with portion control. The best part about chili mac is that you can make it gluten-free!

4. Stuffed Zucchini Boats

There are so many ways to make healthy meals and veggies taste amazing and these zucchini boats are no exception. You can make them with just about any kind of meats and sauces to customize them for you.

5. Caprese Chicken

Chicken gets boring after a while but there are lots of ways to change it up. This caprese chicken is a twist on the classic Italian salad but it’s also a great way to change up your nightly baked chicken.

6. Cinnamon Apple Porkchops

Who would’ve thought that mixing fruits, sugar, and pork would be delicious? I certainly didn’t, but this has become one of my favorite dishes!

7. Spinach Quesadillas

I always have tortillas and spinach in my house anyway, so this is the cheapest meal on this list; free! You can add in your favorite cheese and meat if you so choose.

8. Calzones

Calzones are both healthy and cheap to make! You can also fill these with any ingredients you wish such as buffalo chicken and pizza.

9. Stuffed Peppers

My favorite version of this healthy meal is taco stuffed peppers. All you need is ground meat, cheese, and any other toppings you wish to include.

10. Taco Lasagna

I love lasagna and I love tacos, so this taco lasagna is the absolute best! It’s basically a taco bake, so it’s easy to make and takes very little time.

11. Avocado Alfredo Pasta

Pasta is cheap, probably one of the cheapest things you can eat. This avocado pasta is a healthy version of the very loved white alfredo sauce that will be going straight to the top of your healthy meals list.

12. Margherita Pizza

Making your own pizza is always much healthier than buying some. This classic Margherita pizza is lightweight and perfect if you make a personal pan version.

13. Sausage Peppers and Onions Skillet

I’m not sure if you can get an easier meal than this one! all you need is an onion, red and green peppers and your favorite kind of sausage. Toss them in a skillet with some olive oil and you’re good to go.

14. Pesto Flatbread

Much like pizza, flatbreads are great to make if you only want a single serving. Pesto is super yummy and healthy and you can’t really go wrong with mozzarella cheese!

15. Eggplant Parmesan

Eggplant is a little cheaper than chicken is and you can buy it in a smaller quantity. I like to add some basil leaves to mine to make it fresher.

16. Baked Sweet Potato

You really can’t go wrong with a baked sweet potato! If you have time, stick it in the oven to bake evenly. If you’re running short, wrap the potato up in a damp paper towel and stick it in the microwave for about five minutes.

17. Meatball Sandwich

Meatball sandwiches from restaurants can be fattening so it’s best to make your own at home if you plan to stick to your healthy meals. You can either make your own meatballs or buy frozen ones from the grocery store.

18. Shrimp Tacos

If you’re tired of the old ground meat tacos, try making them with shrimp. You can find lots of different recipes for these online but the most common is with coleslaw.

19. Teriyaki Chicken and Broccoli

You can find these frozen meals at any grocery store, but those pre-made dinners have an insane amount of sodium. Making teriyaki chicken and broccoli at home can significantly decrease all of the bad ingredients in this dish.

20. Burrito Bowls

If you’re like me you crave Chipotle, and that costs money. You can make awesome copycat burrito bowls at home with the usual ingredients. These bowls are also great for those of us who want to start meal prepping.
