6 Hairstyles for Short to Medium Length Hair
Choosing a hairstyle in the morning is bad enough, but when you have short or medium length hair, it can get a little difficult when you can’t do more than half of the ones online (thanks, longer hair girls). But that doesn’t mean that there isn’t any hairstyles out there for girls like us, and there’s even some that you can do that are typically longer hairstyles!
So, if you’re like us and you’re incredibly indecisive and never quite sure what hairstyle will actually look good for your haircut (we didn’t really think this through did we?), here’s 6 different hairstyles that you can do with short to medium length hair that actually look good.
1. The wavy “mess”
This look is great for a laid-back look with still a little bit of style to it, and really voluminzes your hair if you do it well enough. To do this look, put your hair in a curler for 5 seconds, and then run your fingers through it as it cools down. Make sure to get your entire head (back to front) for a little more of a stylized look, and flip it to the side to add height to your face, making it appear longer.
2. Half-up, half-down pony
This is a pretty classic style for any type of hair, but is perfect for shorter hair when you want to mix things up a bit. Try curling the pony and your front strands for a cuter, curly look, or do a sleek straight look for a little more business type settings. Plus, you can add a cute accessory like a pin or scrunchie to keep the pony in place!
3. Dutch braid(s)
These are probably the best to keep your hair out of your face during workouts or windy days, but they’re super cute for casual hairstyles too. Plus, because the style uses your whole head of hair (rather than just the bottom part) you still get the look of a braid with shorter hair. Plus, you can double up on the braids if you want!
4. Top Knot
Although this is seen as more of a longer hair type hairstyle, top knots are actually really easy to do and pull off with short to medium length hair. All you need to do is part the knot from the bottom part of your hair (kind of like you’re doing a half-pony) and twist it into a messy knot with a hair tie that matches your colour.
5. Side/headband braid
No, we don’t mean like an actual, over the shoulder side braid. But braiding back the sides of your hair (like the parts closest to your face and temple) is a perfectly easy way to style shorter hair (and even works for really short hair). All you have to do is braid from your temple into the rest of your hair, and either pin it below for a more subtle look, or above.
6. Double top buns
Sometimes known as space buns, this style is actually doable with short to medium length hair if you know how to and also do it properly. The best way to catch all of your hair is to part it into two sections and then braid the two ponytails (rather than just twist them up). This gathers all of your hair and also leaves you with a really cute, more stylized version of the classic hairstyle for all you shorter hair chicks.
