If you’re broke, like most college students are, and looking for free things to do around San Francisco State University, this article is for you! Here are 10 free things to do that for sure will get you out of bed, will jump start your city adventures, and help you to make new experiences.
Land’s End is a nice short hike with lots to offer from the scenic view to the foam party the ocean creates somehow.
Relax and enjoy the smooth sounds and improvisation of the artist or band playing that night at Atlas Cafe, 1300 on Fillmore, The Revolution Cafe or Cigar bar & grill.
There are an array of art galleries and exhibits located around the city at any given time; my favorite is Heron Arts. OR various Museums often offer a free day sometime during the first week of the month. Check out de Young, Conservatory of Flowers, and SF MOMA.
There are a lot of activities in the Cesar Chavez building from the arcade downstairs, live music at The Depot, and drinks at The Pub.
Watch various stand up acts throughout the city and get your laugh on to help you forget that you, like myself, are a broke college student. Check out Stagewerx, Cafe Sapore, City Segway, and Piano Fight, but don’t forget to RSVP!
I can’t not include DP on this list! This is the go to destination for the day that the sun is out and is above 70 degrees. Bring a blanket, some beverages, your friends, whatever really, except hammocks cause you will get a ticket. Trust me.
Catch a movie screening. There are often these screenings every week, maybe twice a week hosted at AMC’s and theater venues throughout the city. I suggest getting there early because it is first come first serve.
If you are looking for something to do at night with your friends, go to El Rio! They have a various games you can play like pool, an outdoor patio, karaoke night and various other events. Also, try the Knockout for similar events.
Exercise and a photo shoot opportunity?!?! It’s really just what you make of it, ya know?
Okay, so a lecture might not be your cup of tea when you’re poor and bored BUT I do think some of the lecturers offered on campus cover a lot of interesting topics for discussion. But hey! That’s just me. Also, most of them offer free food, so maybe that interests you.
