5 Foods To Add Into Your Summer Diet For Energy Boost

It’s summer! Not only does that mean more free time, better tasting food and boatloads of fun, but it also comes with the temptation to slip into unhealthy habits. Of course, it’s impossible to say no to ice cream on a hot summer day, or a hot dog fresh off the grill and I’m not saying you have to by any means. However, if you want to maintain that high metabolism to keep up with the rush of summer, here are 5 foods you may want to mix into your diet for a little energy boost!

1. Raspberries

Raspberries are without a doubt my favorite fruit. Not only are they delicious, but they are full of antioxidants that help keep your body strong. According to Medical Today, the fiber and water found in the fruit do a great job regulating the immune system, as well as decreasing the risk of inflammation-related conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and obesity.  It’s a fairly delicious and simple treat to get you that energy boost you need. One bite of a raspberry, and you’ll be eating the fruit like it’s candy!

2. Spinach

I used to always snub my nose at spinach as a kid, like most other vegetables, but as an adult, I now add it to a lot of my dishes. The best part about it is that it blends in so nicely with other foods and ingredients, you often forget that you added it in the first place. Not only is the veggie pretty tasty, but according to Women’s Day, it’s a great source of iron, which in turn helps keep your energy levels where they should be throughout the day.

3. Watermelon

There is nothing like a cold watermelon on a hot summer day! But on top of being utterly refreshing taste-wise, watermelon is incredibly good for your health. Since it is heavily water-based, the fruit gives you that extra added hydration needed for the summer heat. In addition to it being high in H20, the fruit is also packed with antioxidants like vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin B6, potassium, magnesium, and dietary fiber, according to One Green Planet. All of these minerals help your body stay healthy and strong. You’ll have that energy boost after one bite!

4. Salmon

Salmon is a summer favorite of mine and not only is it tender in taste, but it’s also full of benefits. According to Women’s Day, the fish is high in vitamin B6, niacin, and riboflavin, which are all vitamins that convert consumed food into energy. It’s also very easy to match with other healthy sides like a nice summer vegetable or some quinoa. So go ahead and throw some salmon on the grill or cook it with some cappers on top in the oven!

5. Green Beans

To me, green beans are one of the essential summer veggies. I love any type of meat or fish paired with a side of these beans. And not only are they sweet in taste, but they are also full of vital nutrients like vitamins A, C, and K, as well as folate, thiamin, riboflavin, iron, magnesium, and potassium, according to Medical News Today. These make the bean a superpower against ailments such as cancer, depression, and bone strength. So it’s no wonder that you will be given the proper energy boost after eating a bowl full to help you complete all those fun summer activities you had in mind!

Eating healthy is hard to do, especially when you’re busy, which is probably bound to happen with an activity-packed summer. But when we fail to do so our bodies become run down and we end up putting in more effort, later on, trying to go on these diet kicks and exercise binges.

It’s not good to rush everything, because chances are you will not stick with any type of regimented plan you started and begin to fall back into even more unhealthy habits. Instead of doing it all to the max at once, just like a simple exercise daily is helpful, eating any one of these foods on a regular basis can help you feel your best all summer!
