When You Feel Like You’ll Be Single Forever Remember These Things

As someone who has been single for the majority of her life, I understand just how frustrating and lonely it can get. When seemingly the rest of the world is in a relationship except for you, that can get a little sad and unsettling – I get it. However, I am a firm believer that there is someone out there for everyone and that the previous dates you’ve been on and relationships you’ve been in didn’t work out for a reason. I simply have just yet to find someone that I really connect with and I refuse to waste my time with people that I don’t connect with because life is too short to be wasting your time on anything or anyone. So, for those of you who are in the same boat as me, here are a few things to remember when you feel like you will be single forever (spoiler alert: you won’t be)

1. Time Is On Your Side

Remember, you’re young. Not many people nowadays are married by the time they reach their twenties. In fact, Americans are getting married later and later. For women, the average age of first marriage is 27 years old, and for men, 29. That is up several years from the average being 23 for women and 26 for men many, many years ago. And time only goes on, so I’m sure several years from now, the average age of first marriage for men and women will be even higher than it is today. So if you’re not married between the ages of 18 and 22 like most of our parents and grandparents were, fear not. Nobody’s doing that anymore, anyway.

2. Every Bad Date Brings You Closer To A Good One

Pretty much everyone experiences at least one bad date, and bad can range anywhere from you simply didn’t feel a connection so it didn’t work out to he talked about his ex the whole night and you paid the bill. Everyone has to test the waters a bit to see what they like and what they don’t, so just think of it as a learning experience.

3. Sometimes The Best Things Come To You When You Least Expect It

You may be avidly looking for your future spouse by going out every weekend and joining every dating site known to man, but still may be coming up short. Sometimes you just need to take a break from doing all of that and focus on yourself for a little while. And you never know what you might find during that time. After all, the best things tend to come to you when you least expect it and aren’t looking.

4. Worrying Will Get You Nowhere

Worrying about how you may be single forever won’t help you find your future spouse any faster. There’s no sense in worrying over what you can’t control. Worrying gets you nowhere, anyway. So you might as well just stop worrying and just accept the fact that you are single right now and might be for a while. Again, the best things happen when you least expect it, so the sooner you make peace with your situation, the sooner you may find what you’ve been looking for.

5. Loving Yourself First Is Most Important

You can’t expect anyone else to love you if you don’t even love yourself. Having a significant other doesn’t define a person, their character does. If you are happy with yourself and love yourself for who you are, that’s all that matters. If you don’t and you feel like you need to be in a relationship to be someone, then maybe it’s better off that you’re single for the time being so that you can find happiness within yourself first. You will not be single forever.
