Everything You Need For A Minimal And Simple Makeup Routine

While wild and heavy makeup looks can look great and be fun to try out, sometimes all you need is a minimal and simple look that you can quickly do in the morning before work or school. It’s not very feasible to do an intense and detailed look every day, and simple makeup takes a lot less time and energy. However, minimal makeup has been a big trend recently, and it can look incredible if you know how to do it right! Here’s what you need in order to complete a simple makeup routine.

1. Beauty Blender

Before even beginning your makeup routine, be sure to grab a beauty blender. They’re very cheap and easy to use, so even if you don’t have one or don’t know how to use one, it shouldn’t be too hard to acquire one or learn how to use it.

Your beauty blender will be the tool with which you blend any makeup. You can also use your fingers, but if you don’t prefer that method, beauty blender are definitely the way to go. To do this correctly, you need to make sure to wet the sponge and squeeze it out before using it to blend you makeup—if you don’t, it will absorb your makeup and it won’t blend as well.

2. Tinted Sunscreen

Sunscreen is an essential part of your makeup routine, but it often gets overlooked. Instead of piling both foundation and sunscreen on your face, opt for a tinted sunscreen instead. You will gain that nice finish and coverage while also applying your daily SPF.

ILIA has a great Super Serum Skin Tint with SPF 40—it has amazing coverage and acts as a lightweight foundation, as well as a strong sunscreen to protect your skin! Whether it’s this specific product or not, a tinted sunscreen can act as the base for your easy and simple makeup look.

3. Concealer

In case your tinted sunscreen didn’t quite cover everything, use concealer to touch up any problem areas. This could mean correcting blemishes, dark spots, or under-eye circles. Concealer will help brighten your skin and give you that flawless finish, but it’s still quite minimal and doesn’t take up much time.

My personal favorite concealer is from Glossier—they have tons of shades and it’s both lightweight and buildable. This is a quick and easy way of touching up your makeup and getting that gorgeous look without a ton of effort.

4. Blush Stick

A blush stick is a really easy way of doing blush—it’s simpler and quicker than applying powder, and it looks a lot better, too. This will give you a fast and natural color to your cheeks, and you’ll be surprised by how easy it is to blend.

ColourPop has a great, cheap blush stick that provides gorgeous pigment while not being too heavy. It’s buildable and lightweight, and since it’s not a powder, it gives a beautiful, moisturized finish that will leave your skin looking dewy and naturally flushed.

5. Brow Brush

If you’re going for that minimal and simplistic look, using a brow pencil to fill in your eyebrows probably isn’t the move. Instead of coloring them in and having that dramatic, defined brow line, simply use a spoolie to brush them out and get the shape you want.

If you really like or need that extra bit of color, try the Glossier Boy Brow—it’s a tinted brow gel with a nice brush so that you can brush out your brows while also filling them in just slightly. It’s still minimal and natural-looking, and it’s also super easy.

6. Eyelash Curler

If you’re looking for a simple, easy way to make your lashes stand out a bit, try using an eyelash curler! It will lift your lashes and make them look like you had them done somewhere professionally. This is such a quick way to make your eyes pop without any makeup at all, and it’s not hard to figure it out how to do. You can find any brand that words for you and for your budget—they’re usually sold at any local drugstore. This unique tool will give you great definition and gorgeous lashes just like that!

7. Mascara

Mascara is a simple way to instantly make your makeup look more effortful, and it brightens and widens your eyes a lot. Especially if you have lighter eyelashes, this can do wonders for you look, and it only takes a few seconds.

One of my favorite mascaras is Clinique’s High Impact Mascara—it gives so much volume and makes your eyelashes look ten time longer. Just quickly apply a bit to your top and bottom lashes for a more define look, and you’ll have gorgeous lashes to spice up your look!

8. Tinted Lip Balm

Rather than using a heavy and bold lip color, opt for a tinted lip balm to complete the simple look. Using bright lipsticks is better for a more intense makeup routine, but when you’re doing a minimalistic one, lighter tints are better. Using a lip balm is also nicer on the lips because it’ll simultaneously moisturize and brighten them.

Burt’s Bees has one of the best tinted lip balms on the market. They have beautiful and natural-looking pigments that will be perfect for completing your look.

9. Setting Spray

Using a setting spray to finish off your whole look is the perfect way to make sure everything stays in place while still being dewy and natural. A setting mist can make your look either more dewy or more matte, and it’s the best way to quickly make your makeup last longer throughout the day.

Nyx has some really good quality, affordable setting sprays that you can usually find at Target! They have options for whichever finish you may prefer, and it’s just a quick and easy spritz to complete your makeup routine.
