1. Public Speaking or Fundamentals of Speech

This course introduces students to real world applications of the different types of public presentations given in the real world. This course also helps students develop creative ways to communicate with others, in a personal and interpersonal way. In class students will watch a multitude of films showing ways to understand nonverbal communication as well. All students will leave this class with a general understanding and appreciation for the communication process. 
 

2. General Humanities

This course takes an ancient approach to discuss the many topics in humanities through the use of literature, a little philosophy and many forms of art. This course uses a historical introduction starting at the Middle Ages, Roman Empire and eventually coming to modern day. General Humanities is a fast paced course keeps you on your toes!  
 

3. Intro to the Visual Arts

Introduction to the Visual Arts is a course that allows students to express themselves in the form of art. In this course students will paint and sculpt and have guided readings to help create the finest pieces of artwork . This course also focuses on nature, water and wildlife, as well as experience of cultures and its central role in our daily lives. 
 

4. Culture and Appearance

Like fashion? Like cultures? Culture and Appearance allows students to take a look at how we dress in the terms of culture. In this course students will analyze the differences between America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Central/South America. Students will also look at dress in terms of cultural, social, psychological and economic influences.
 

5. World Language 1

Italian, Spanish, Mandarin etc. This course focuses on the students development of basic communication skills. This course also focuses on learning and building an extensive vocabulary while broadening grammatical skills. 
 

6. Film Forum

Love movies? Film Forum is a fun an interactive class that features a series of lectures and presentations by some of the most influential people in film. Guests include directors, actors and producers in the industry. In any given class you can see directors of The Walking Dead and Preacher, sound technicians for Gravity and actors from a variety of films.
 

7. Social Problems

Social problems is another fast paced course that goes over current events. It also takes an in-depth look at how social structure and social institutions are related to problems such as discrimination, environmental pollution, violence, and poverty. 

8. Writing for the Media

While writing may seem like a tedious task for some…this course is actually fun and easy.
This course shows students how to write. Whether it be for print, electronic, or online media. It also gives students the experience of writing pieces for future needs. Students will immediately develop an understanding of writing. In this course students will produce a variety of written work ranging from media kits to press releases to blogs. 

9. New Student Seminar

While you have no choice to take this class…it’s good to know your first semester will have at least one easy course. This course prepares all first-year students for a smooth transition from high school to college-level work and the transition to campus life.

10. College writing 1: The Intellectual Prose

If you’re anything like the average college student, I am sure you shy away from any type of writing course. But have no fear…writing can be fun here. This course is a workshop course where students work to create a portfolio of writing pieces. In this course students write a series of 5 short essays and respond to peers to strengthen their own writing. This course has a strong emphasis on the background of the writing process. This course takes an alternative approach, it focuses on the pre-writing and drafting~not necessarily the finished product.
