The 21 Do’s And Don’ts With Fall Accessories

Cute autumn accessories are a must for the fall season! We've put together a list of the best styles to wear when things start getting chilly!

When the fall season begins on September 22, the temperatures outside will be cooler and the nights will start getting longer. This seasonal change means its time to start switching up your wardrobe and breaking out the best fall accessories to wear during late September to late December.

Regardless of the time of year, you want to make sure you incorporate the right accessories with your outfits in order to keep your style fresh and fun during whatever season it currently is. The main purpose of accessories is to enhance your clothing pieces and make your entire outfit look more complete. All of the Do’s and Don’ts for Fall Accessories featured in this article will help ensure you look super stylish during the autumn months and not wearing anything that’s considered out of style during that time too.

Now, with all of that being said, let’s take a look down below and check out the following 21 Do’s And Don’ts With Fall Accessories:

1.  Do Wear Accessories in Trendy Fall Colors:

Fashionistas love wearing accessories and clothing items that are in the season’s trendiest colors. In early July, Who What Wear listed the following nine color shades that will be huge hits this coming fall are Red, Red Wine, Feeling Blue, 50 Shades of Gray (see in the photo below), Celery, Almond Milk, Fresh Orange, Black is the New Black, Time for Tan, and Military Olive. Be sure to buy some stylish fall accessories in those colors to wear throughout the autumn months.

2. Don’t Overdo It with Fall Accessories:

Out of all the don’ts featured in this article, the most important DON’T is to not overdo it with Fall Accessories! Wearing too many accessories with your outfit, regardless of the season, will overkill and ruin your entire outfit.

Accessories are meant to serve as an enhancement to an outfit and when they start to take over, you have committed the over-accessorizing crime. Don’t wear too many Fall Accessories all at once if you don’t want to be the target of a roast by your fellow peers.

3. Do Layer Your Outfits:

As the temperatures will be getting cooler during the autumn months, it means that it is time to start layering your outfits! Fall Accessories and clothing items such as short and quarter-length sleeve tops, light to mid-weight sweaters, scarves, and jackets, will allow you to adjust to the changing temperatures that come with the season of autumn.

4. Don’t Overdo It When It Comes To Layering Your Outfits:

As I said in the previous section above, fall is one of the best times of year to layer your outfits! However, just like I said about not wearing too many fall accessories, you also need to make sure not to overdo it when layering your outfits too!

Having on too many layers will make it look like you have been eaten alive by your own look. Whenever you layer outfits during the autumn, remember to make sure you that you have no more than three levels of layering going on.

5. Do Wear Scarfs:

I couldn’t do an article about the Do’s and Don’ts for fall accessories without including wearing scarfs for the former category! This garment is the perfect accessory to wear during autumn to keep your neck warm when the temperatures start top drop.

6. Don’t Wear Hiking Gear:

Unless you are actually up in the mountains camping and/or camping, don’t wear your hiking jacket as you go about your day during the autumn months. There are a lot of trendy fall accessories and jackets out there you pick from. Hiking and camping gear just don’t scream “stylish and trendy”.

7. Don’t Wear Your Hair Down When Wearing A Cape or Scarf:

Don’t leave your hair down while wearing a cape or scarf. While most of us girls love wearing our hair down and feel extra pretty doing so, your hair will look like a total mess if you wear a scarf all day. It takes forever to brush. To avoid this problem, it is best to have your hair up in a ponytail or bun while wearing a cape or scarf.

8. Don’t Forget To Add Some Vintage Pieces of Jewelry To Your Wardrobe:

One of the best trends to follow and wear for fall accessories is wearing vintage jewelry. Whether it’s a necklace, brooch, bracelet, and/or ring, vintage jewelry will add a little bit of nostalgia to your look.

9. Do Wear Statement Jewelry:

Another one of the most popular and trendy fall accessories is statement jewelry, which are unique and bold pieces of jewelry that help the wearer poetry who they are through their outward appearance. While wearing statement jewelry, make sure you keep all of the other accessories you wear with it simple and minimalistic.

10. Don’t Combine Statement Necklaces with Busy or Flashy Patterns:

While wearing statement necklaces, don’t combine them with any clothing items that have busy or flashy patterns. Not everyone knows how to make these fall accessories pop. As mentioned earlier, if you really want to make a statement with statement jewelry, the best way to do so is by pairing it with simple and minimalistic accessories and clothing items.

11. Do Wear Square Strappy Toe Sandals:

Wear these square strappy toe sandals during the start of the fall season, when the weather is still warm.

12. Don’t Hide Huge Collars Underneath a Bulky Scarf:

While scarfs are one of the most popular fall accessories to wear during the autumn and winter seasons, there are still few don’ts that apply to this fall accessory too. One of those don’ts includes hiding huge coat collars underneath a bulky scarf! While wearing a coat with a huge collar, you can still sport a scarf with it, but make sure it’s something light.

13. Do Go Tights-Free As Much As You Can:

Tights are one of the most popular fall accessories to wear from late September to late December. As I said earlier, the first day of fall is September 22. Depending on where you live, temperatures will still feel warm and won’t drop as much on the first day of fall compared to other places in the country.

If you live in a state where the fall temperatures tend to not drop until mid-October, you don’t have to break out fall accessories like tights right away! Take the advantage of the lingering warm weather and go tights-free to bare your gorgeous legs while wearing a dress. You can still give a nod to the fall season with your outfit by wearing shoes that are a darker color or made from a heavier fabric.

14. Don’t Put Away All of Your Summer Clothes Away Just Yet:

Depending on where you live, there are some parts of America that won’t experience fluctuating temperatures right away when fall begins in mid-September.  If you live in a state where the fall temperatures won’t drop until early or mid-October, don’t put away all of your summer clothes away just yet!

You can still use some summer clothing items like tank tops and tees for layered looks. In addition, you can also wear maxi dresses with a blazer! All of the summer clothing items mentioned above can still be paired with fall accessories for some trendy autumn looks.

15. Do Wear Hoop Earrings:

According to The Trend Spotter, one of the fall accessories that’s poised to make a big comeback this autumn is hoop earrings! These earrings are a way to add more pizzazz to a plain and simple outfit. They look best when wearing your hair in either a bun or ponytail.

16. Don’t Wear Tights as Pants:

While tights are a staple among fall accessories, it is important to remember that they are not meant to be worn as pants! The same thing applies for pantyhose as well. In general, wearing tights or pantyhose as pants never looks good on anyone ever.

17. Do Sport Padded Hairbands:

In general, headbands make perfect accessories to wear in order to keep the hair locks out of your face. Headbands are also one of those fall accessories that you can wear with a minimalistic and/or embellished design.

18. Don’t Wear Culturally Specific Accessories With Bright Colored Clothes:

If any of the fall accessories you plan on wearing contain lots of beads and/or threads, make sure you pair them with neutral-colored clothing. Pairing these types of fall accessories with bright-colored clothing will come off as too much and confuse onlookers on where to focus on with your outfit.

19. Do Wear Hats:

Fluctuating temperatures make hats one of the most popular and worn fall accessories during that time of year. From late September to late December, do consider hats of all colors, styles, and sizes to complete your fall looks.

20. Don’t Wear Anything Unflattering:

Don’t force yourself to wear any fall accessories that you feel won’t look good on you. Sometimes, the most popular accessories, clothing items, and/or trends won’t make you look spectacular if they don’t work for you personally. Just remember to find and wear fall accessories that meet your personal style and tastes.

21. Do Sport a Face Mask Chain:

From all of the Do’s included in this article for fall accessories, this is perhaps the most useful one. Until a vaccine for coronavirus is ready, we will have wear masks everywhere we go due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

During the fall, people can help curb the spread of the coronavirus by wearing their face masks while out in public in style with this face mask chain! Pretty Connected’s Nikki Mini Face Mask Chain Strap (see below) is simply a golden chain strap that looks like a cute necklace attached to your mask to and also wear when your mask isn’t covering your face.
