5 Dorm Room Essentials
Everyone is now a few weeks into the fall semester and finally getting back into a routine. Dorm rooms are set up, new friends are made, and class schedules make sense. However, it’s never too late to add some essential items to your dorm room that will make your time spent there much, much better. The following are 5 dorm room essentials that you HAVE to have in your dorm room if you don’t already.
1. A Mattress Pad (A Good One)
A good night’s sleep can be a game changer in college. From pulling all nighters to going to parties to just trying to balance college life as a whole, sleep can be put on the back-burner. But when you finally get that perfect night’s sleep, you feel like you can conquer the world. Having a mattress pad on your bed will aide in assuring a quality night of sleep, I promise. Dorm mattresses are usually stiff and uncomfortable. Consider splurging on an extra thick pad; adding those extra couple inches will really make a difference!
2. Filtered Water Pitcher
At home, you probably took advantage of having easy access to good water. Stocks of water bottles in the pantry or the simple press of a button on the refrigerator door – water was something you never thought twice about. Now that you’re living in a dorm room, chances are you no longer have that luxury. With limited space in your dorm, you might not be able to store four cases of water to last you the semester. Also, with most freshman and sophomores not having cars on campus, it’s sometimes difficult to get to a store to buy more cases. Having a filtered pitcher in your fridge is the best solution to ensure quality water at all times. Just fill the pitcher with regular tap water and you’ll have cold, filtered water whenever you want, plus a little extra cash in your wallet and space on the floor (thanks to no more need for water bottle cases).
3. Portable Speaker
Perfect for when you want to play music in your common room before everyone goes out, or to connect to a computer because those laptop speakers just aren’t cutting it, portable speakers are definitely a dorm room essential. Also, you never know when you’re going to want to have a spontaneous dance party and need to blare your favorite songs!
4. Organize Storage
Drawer and closet space are limited in a college dorm. Don’t try and stuff all of your clothes into the drawers your room provides. It will become messy and unorganized. You won’t be able to remember where you put your favorite shirt or your most comfortable sweats. Use plastic storage drawers or hanging closet organizers to store clothes and shoes. Now you’ll be able to actually close all those other drawers stuffed to the brim.
5. Pictures And Posters
Posters and pictures will make your room feel more like home. Whether it’s a poster with a motivational saying or pictures from of friends and family, this addition will make your room feel more like your own. These dorm room essentials are perfect for when you’re having a bad day or feeling a twang of homesickness. Don’t be afraid to get creative and show off your personality and style.
