8 Different Ways To Motivate Yourself

I’m not saying it’s easy (because it definitely isn’t), but self-motivation is a must when it comes to this adult nonsense (that none of us signed up for may I add). You get to an age where your to-list gets bigger and bigger and it seems like it’s never ending (that’s because it isn’t). If you’re the type of person that gets shit done, then I envy you. But if you are the complete opposite (which most of us are), here are 8 different ways to motivate yourself.

1. Motivational Quotes

One that always helps me, and I know also helps my close friends are some good old cheesy quotes. You know the ones I mean? The motivational Pinterest classics. They’re the best motivator I’ve ever had, spend five or ten minutes scrolling through Pinterest’s finest quotes to get yourself motivated – why not make a ‘motivational quotes’ board? So you always have that motivation there whenever you need it, pin all of your favourite quotes and get ready to feel motivated!

2. A Good Routine

When you’re in a routine, you feel organised and you feel as though you’ve really got your life together. I know it sounds silly, but when you have a consistent routine, the little things that we repeat on the daily make us feel like we have everything figured out (well, almost everything). Although it doesn’t necessarily mean we do, I’m sure most of you will agree, a repetitive routine is just what we need to get us into the swing of things.

3. Feel Good Music

There’s nothing better than some feel good music. On a morning when you’re getting ready for the day ahead, play some up-beat music to get your motivation on. Some energetic and lively music to set your day off right. Or, why not even listen to a few of your favourite get-going songs on your break to keep your motivation at an all time high.

4. Think Of The Positives

When you have a job in mind, think about all the positives that will come with it. What can I do once I’ve done this job? What will I gain from completing it? Maybe, absolutely nothing. But there’s a reason you need to do that particular job, so think why you need to do it and how you’ll feel after you have done it. Will you feel relieved? Will the pressure be off at work? Will you thank yourself later? Think of your future self and always think of the positive outcomes, big or small.

5. No Distractions

Distractions are our biggest weakness when it comes to getting things done. Distractions such as our phones, the TV or the obvious, social media. Whether it be our friends calling us up for some friendly advice, to scrolling down Instagram wishing we were somewhere else. We need to get rid of all distractions to self-motivate ourselves. I appreciate it is near enough impossible to part with our phones, even for five minutes. But if this is your motivational flaw, then ditching your phone is a must to gain back your motivation.

6. One Step At A Time

Focus on one thing at a time, when you make a list, and you’ve got a million and one things going on – it tends to be quite overwhelming. When you complete one small job, you’ll find the motivation to do another, and then another. When you’ve completed all the small jobs you’ve had on your to-do list, you’ll be surprised how good and productive you’ll feel – use that feeling as your motivation.

7. Don’t Procrastinate

Ah, procrastination. I know it well. Procrastination is our biggest enemy, and we all have those days where we just can’t be bothered to move out of bed. But, when things need to be done, things simply need to be done. To keep yourself motivated, procrastination is off limits. Put all of your energy into your one job, stop thinking about a million things at once. Focus on the job at hand and have full concentration. Google is always going to be there to answer your irrelevant and totally un-necessary questions about how the world is going to end (which is interesting, but do that when all of your jobs are done).

8. Organisation

When you know what you need to do, and you have everything set in place, it’s easier to get your head around it. The thought of doing a job from start to finish is quite scary when you have a lot of other things to complete. Being organised is the key to self-motivation, when you know what you need to do in your head, you can easily get it done. Have a plan ready and you’ll feel more eager than ever to get started.
