10 Denim Jacket DIY Tips And Tricks Worth Trying

Denim jackets have been a fashion staple of every decade in America. From the 1950s beatniks to the 90s grunge gals, there’s no way to go wrong with denim. Sometimes, however, your everyday light wash denim jacket can get a little boring. Here are 10 unique denim jacket DIY tips to recreate that old jean jacket in your closet!

1. Add some fringe.

It’s a known fact that adding fringe to anything automatically makes you look 10x more badass. You can add fringe to the sleeves, back, or front pockets of the jacket, just get creative with it! Here’s a great DIY tutorial to get you started.

2. Tear it up.

Thanks to new trends, pre-made holes in our clothing is the new thing. If you’re looking for more of a distressed look, grab a pair of scissors and go to work on your denim. Rip tears, holes, and slits in the back, arms, or front of the jacket for an alternative look.

3. Throw on some paint.

Get creative and design a masterpiece on the back of your jacket. In order to do so, you will need to use fabric paint. The options are endless as to what you can paint, and this is where you can let your personality show.

4. Use a sharpie with the paint.

Another creative way to design your jacket would be adding a layer of white or light-colored paint, and then using a sharpie on top of that. The paint makes the sharpie pop and gives a more unique vibe.

5. Cut out some designs

In order to do this one, you’ll need a good pair of scissors and a steady hand. Cut-out a shape such as a heart, cross, or other design that interests you. To spice it up even further, add spike embellishments around the outline.

6. Recycle that old t-shirt.

Cut up an old favorite band shirt to make a square that lines up with the seams of the back of the jean jacket. Then, safety pin all the edges to the jacket for an edgy look. This way you can now rock your jean jacket and your favorite band.

7. Patch it up.

Patches are a timeless way to turn any old denim into a unique piece of clothing. Buttons are also a cute way to bring your jacket to life. Simply iron or pin on any patches and buttons you like and you’ve got a new staple piece.
