On warm, summer days, I like to go outside and\u00a0enjoy the heat with outdoor sports or go out with some friends and try\u00a0a new flavor of ice cream at our favourite parlor. However, on the days that the weather just won’t hold or you are too tired to go out, you have a great opportunity to binge watch a series or two on Netflix. I myself have had some time to do such a thing, and have come up with a short list of some of my favourite shows on Netflix. Whether you are a comedy sitcom or a psychological thriller fan, here is a countdown of 7\u00a0Netflix shows worth watching over the summer.<\/p>\n
Let\u2019s begin the list with a sitcom that you might have seen during your early teen days. That ’70s Show<\/em> follows a group of high school students in their daily lives during the \u2013you guessed it- the ’70s. The show addresses many social issues of the ’70s, including the\u00a0recession, sexism, and teen rebellion. Nevertheless, it is able to show these stories and their impact on the characters through humor and creative writing. That ’70s Show<\/em> will give anybody a good laugh and is a good way to cheer you up on a gloomy day.<\/p>\n \n This next suggestion is for all fans of extremely cheesy romantic story lines. Secret Garden<\/em> is one of the most successful and popular dramas produced in South Korea. The story follows Kim Joo-Won, a CEO of a chain of department stores and Gil Ra-Im, a poor woman who is trying to work her way up in film making industry as a stuntwoman. After the two characters meet by chance, Kim is quickly intrigued by Gi\u2019s stubborn mind but extremely kind personality. The drama follows the challenges of both characters as they try to understand one another in their respective social classes and prove their love for one another. This drama is a tearjerker, however, it is all worth it in the end.<\/p>\n We are taking a trip to the early 90s for this next one on our list of Netflix shows. This sitcom aired before many of us were even born, however, its jokes and characters will remain timeless. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air<\/em> was Will Smith\u2019s first major role, and can be\u00a0credited as what jump started\u00a0his career as a serious actor. The story follows Smith\u2019s character as he moves from East Philadelphia to live with his wealthy aunt and uncle in Bel-Air, California. As you watch the show, you will not be able to keep a straight face against the jokes put on by Will Smith\u2019s character, who coincidentally also shares the same name as the actor. In addition to its humor, the show teaches valuable lessons about friendships, family sacrifices, and growing up, which can also be applied in our modern lives.<\/p>\n This Anime is definitely not like the ones you remember watching as a kid. It is dark, mysterious, and bloody. The plotline follows the story of Eren Yeagar and his two best friends Mikasa and Armin. The three live in a world where humanity has been degraded to survive in the protection of 50 meter stonewalls, which act as a barrier between themselves and the Titans, gigantic creatures that eat humans. After a traumatic event in his life, Eren and his friends decide to join the military, in order to learn how to kill the titans and help humanity survive. Throughout the series, secrets are revealed about the Titans but also the story\u2019s characters. The fast pace action and incredible animation will ensure that you are at the edge of your seat until the very end.<\/p>\n This next show will give you a chance to reconnect with some of you favourite fairy tale characters from you childhood. Once Upon a Time <\/em>is set is a fictional town called Storybrooke. The residents of set town were transported from their fairy tale homes and cursed by the evil queen Regina to live in the world of men, while having no memory of their real identities. This curse is challenged when the adoptive son of the queen Regina seeks the help of his birth mother Emma Swan to break the curse. In all, this show offers viewers a chance to once again see a world of magic and a place where, with hard work and sacrifice, you may receive your happily ever after.<\/p>\n Hannibal <\/em>is a re-adaptation of Thomas Harris\u2019 book series. This adaptation focuses on the relationship, of FBI investigator Will Grahan and Dr. Hannibal Lecter, who acts as Will\u2019s psychiatrist during the early part of the series. In the series Will Grahan works for the FBI and uses his special ability to think like the killer and reenact the murder scenes in his head, in order to catch the killers. During the first season of the series, Will is working on the hardest case of this career, to try and find the cannibalistic serial killer, the Chesapeake Ripper, not knowing that the killer is also acting as his close ally and his friend. This show is goory, bloody, but artistically stunning and is an excellent choice for psychological thriller fans.<\/p>\n \n I had to think long and hard\u00a0about which show deserved the #1 spot on this list of Netflix shows\u00a0to watch over the summer. After a long time debating, I chose this show because of its originality in writing, amazing filmography, and interesting characters. Sense8 <\/em>tells the story of eight strangers living in different parts of the world, who suddenly link to each other mentally and emotionally, in addition to receiving the ability to communicate and share memories and skills with one another. These eight unique individuals, called \u201csensates\u201d struggle with the challenges of their every day life. In time they learn to receive each other\u2019s help and support as they face new challenges and protection from a sensate named \u201cWhispers\u201d, the main antagonist, who hunting them down for experimentation. This show is suspenseful, adventurous, dramatic, and funny.
