As any makeup user knows, the prices on makeup products quickly add up, and the palettes on my wishlist are no joke in terms of pricing. Now I love makeup, but my bank account sure doesn’t (if my monthly statements are anything to go by). So today I’m going to share with you ten incredible Canadian beauty brands I’ve discovered, and the best part – they are ALL affordable!
1. The Green Beaver Company
The Green Beaver is a Canadian company that focuses on using natural and pure ingredients in their products. They are cruelty free, vegan, local, and environmentally sustainable. They offer toothpastes, deodorants, sunscreens, face care for sensitive skin, hair care, body lotions and lip balms. All their products can be ordered online and they offer free shipping on orders over $70.
Pricing: Their products range from $3.99 for a lip balm to $20.99 for cream for sensitive skin making them a very affordable brand for students.
2. Vasanti Cosmetics
Vasanti Cosmetics was created by four women looking to enhance their natural beauty, but couldn’t seem to find any products in the market that could do just that. Vasanti offers products for lips, face, skin, and eyes. The best part about this brand is their broad range of hues; no matter what colour your skin is, you will always be able to find one that matches you. You can order their products online and some Shoppers Drug Mart locations.
Pricing: The most affordable makeup they have are their products for eyes ranging from $19 for eyeliners to $26 for brow kits, brushes ranging from $18 to $35, and lip products ranging from $17 for matte lipsticks to $23 for lipstick pencils.
3. NudeStix
NudeStix was created by two sisters, Ally and Taylor, who were looking for a way to accentuate their finest features with a “barely there” makeup approach. In order to do this, they created makeup crayons that are basically dummy proof and are infused with vitamins and shea butter. NudeStix offers makeup for face, eyes, and lips. You can find this brand in-store at Sephora, Urban Outfitters, Aerie, and Beautylish, or you can buy it online.
Pricing: All their products are $28.
4. MaskerAide
MaskerAide offers sheet masks that are packed with Argan Oil based serums with vitamins and nutrients. Their masks are free of parabens, harsh dyes & pigments, mineral oils, artificial scents, benzophenone, and glycerins – and even if you have no idea what any of those things are – I can tell you, it’s a good thing. MaskerAide sells their masks individually rather than in a boxed set, making them easier for consumers to buy.
Pricing: $6.99 for individual masks to $35 for a boxed set.
5. Consonant Skincare
Toronto-based Consonant Skincare formulates their products using the highest possible concentration of organic botantic ingredients AKA 100% natural. Consonant Skincare’s range of certified organic products is formulated for you to achieve healthy skin.
Pricing: $6 for lip conditioner to $48 for organic body wash (And you could always splurge $248 for the hydragasm kit).
6. Annabelle Cosmetics
Anabelle offers products that are for face, eyes, and lips but their product quality and choice is up there with larger corporations like Revlon and Maybelline. It has a large colour selection, but their Kohl Eyeliner is phenomenal! You can buy their products online, or in store at Shoppers Drug Mart, Wal-Mart, Rexall Pharma Plus or London Drugs.
Pricing: $3.25 for sharpener to $16.95 for CC Colour Control Instant Perfecting Base.
7. Barefoot Venus
Barefoot Venus offers botanical bath and body products with no parabens, sodium laureth sulphate, mineral oils, propylene glycol or synthetic colours – again, this is a good thing. You can buy their products in store depending on where you live, but this is another one of those Canadian beauty brands you could always just order online.
Pricing: $5.50 for Coconut Kiss Cleansing Wash Tube to $32.98 for Skin Bright & Lotion Combo. Their gift sets are all $30+.
8. Isomers Skincare
Isomers Skincare was created by Manuela as she tried and failed to find products in the existing market to tackle her assorted skin care issues. Today Isomers Skincare sells products for lips and skin, and all of their products are all natural and suitable for even the most sensitive of skin. They offer skincare and body care products that promise to “rebalance” skin and restore it to good health.
Pricing: $12 for lip gloss to $25 for foundation.
9. Lippy Girl
Lippy Girl was founded by Darcey Diehl who was frustrated with the limited availability of organic, animal friendly, and earth friendly products (I’m seeing a trend here with these Canadian beauty brands). Lippy Girl’s specialty is organic, vegan & vegetarian friendly, cruelty-free makeup. Their products have no fillers or chemical preservatives. (However, two products – Lip Love lip conditioner and Shazam shimmer – are not vegan.)
Pricing: $8 for a lip balm to $30 for pressed powder.
10. Marcelle
Marcelle offers hypo-allergenic and fragrance free products for both their skincare and makeup lines. With a full range of colours, Marcelle is well equipped to compete with major international brands and can be found at Wal-Mart, Shoppers Drug Mart, London Drugs, or Loblaws.
Pricing: $10.95 for their lipsticks to $26.95 for their Anti-Aging BB Cream
