If you have blonde hair, then chances are you know the struggle of having it turn brassy during the summer. Your beautiful blonde hair suddenly turns to this unflattering orang/yellow color. Lucky for you, there are a few things you can do to help prevent brassy blonde hair or reverse it.
1. Use A Purple Shampoo
If you want a quick and easy at-home fix for your brassy hair, start by using a purple shampoo. This will neutralize any unwanted brassy blonde hair warm tones.
2. Use Shampoo For Color-Treated Hair
The purple shampoo should only be used once or twice a week, as over time of overuse it can start to turn your hair purple. So, on the days where you’re not using the purple shampoo, you should be using shampoo for color-treated hair. Any other shampoo will strip the color, allowing brassy tones to become visible.
3. Limit Your Time In The Sun And Pool
I know, I know – it’s the summertime and you want to spend every possible second basking in the sun and splashing around in the pool. Unfortunately, the chlorine that is found in most swimming pools can really dry out your hair, leaving the color dull and damage-prone, which is exactly when brassy blonde hair starts to show up.
The sun can be just as damaging to your hair. Long exposure makes the color fade faster and brassy tones more visible. If you are going to be out in the sun for long periods of time, be sure to cover up with a hat and/or use a hair sunscreen.
4. Head To The Salon For A Toner
If all else fails, you can always head back to your salon and ask for a toner to get rid of that stubborn brassy blonde hair.
