Its been a long day, you’re tired and just want to relax. For me, watching funny videos always helps, and TED is a great place to watch something different. Some of these talks have not only been humorous, but very inspirational too. It isn’t just lecturers who are on here discussing about many world problems that we face, but everyday heroes that have overcome problem after problem. Here are 10 Ted talks that have helped me and will (hopefully) help you when you are having a bad day.
1. James Veitch-This is what happens when you reply to spam
Ever wanted to know what would happen if you replied to spam? James Veitch has a go and takes you down the story of what happens if you do. This humorous comedian has made many videos where he has pranked individuals and is always a good comedian to watch if you need a good laugh.
2. James Veitch-The agony of trying to unsubscribe
Another great humorous video by James Veitch, only this time, he demonstrates the difficulty of trying to unsubscribe to a mailing list.
3. Kid President-A pep talk from Kid President
This was one of the first videos I watched on TED and to have this little, peppy kid come out with all this is inspiration and life in him is truly uplifting. If you ever need a pep talk, this is a good video to watch if you only have a few minutes to spare.
4. Mariana Atencio-What makes you special
Ever since she was a kid, Atencio has always felt like she has been different. From being the odd one out at summer camp, to the issues her family have faced, Atencio shares her story about being different. This inspirational video shows that it is okay to be different and how to use that to your advantage. This is defintiely one of the best TED talks!
5. Emily Levine-How I made friends with reality
This is both inspirational and humorous. Although Levine is sufferer of cancer, she expresses how she has accepted death in such a positive manner. This humorous woman shares her experiences, past and present with reality.
6. Julia Sweeney-Its time for the talk
Another humorous talk for you. Talking about the birds and the bees is always a difficult topic to do but Sweeney takes you through the story of how she had to explain this to her daughter. If you think you’ve had a bad day, this video demonstrates that everyone has them, no matter where you are in life.
7. Benjamin Zander-The transformative power of classical music
This was a video I briefly saw in one of my lectures during my Masters degree. Zander is a brilliant and engaging speaker. It doesn’t matter whether you listen to classical music or not, this brilliant conductor and pianist gives you the chance to listen to some brilliant music.
8. Tim Urban-Inside the mind of a master procrastinator
We all procrastinate from time to time, and this talk is really relatable if you do. This funny and down to earth talk explains how procrastination occurs according to Urban and how it can affect anyone and everyone.
9. Maysoon Zayid-I got 99 problems and cerebral palsy ain’t one of them
Despite having cerebral palsy, it has never held this woman back. Filled with humour, this inspirational woman discusses her life and the issues she has faced with this debilitating illness.
10. Sam Berns-My philosophy for a happy life
This lovely 17 year old with Progeria talks about how he doesn’t let his disability hold him back. Despite his circumstances, he shows his philosophy to being happy and shows the audience all the things he has done despite his condition. If you ever need some inspirational words of wisdom, this video is for you. This is one of the best TED talks out there.
