Long days, lazy sun, warm nights – summertime carries a distinct feeling that cannot easily be put into words, but every now and then you’ll hear a song that perfectly encapsulates the mood of summer. If you are looking to expand your summer playlist, then look no further! Here is a list of upbeat, indie summer jams that you may have not already heard of that radiate warmth and fun:
One of my personal favorite bands of all-time, the French band Phoenix has songs that fit any mood and this nostalgic hit is perfect for summer nights or literally any hour of the day.
Two Door Cinema Club: “Sun”
Honestly, you can never go wrong with any Two Door Cinema Club songs. This one feels particularly fitting for summer though but definitely check out all their songs for year-round jams! This is easily one of the best indie summer jams!
Crystal Fighters: “LA Calling”, “Plage”, and “Yellow Sun”
Crystal Fighters’ music features a mix of genres and instruments inspired heavily by traditional Spanish sounds. It was hard to narrow down their songs as their music is generally upbeat and has many feel-good summer tunes!
The Head and the Heart: “All We Ever Knew”
Indie folk band, The Head and the Heart’s “All We Ever Knew,” is a more chill summer tune that is great for car rides or just relaxing in the sun. If you are in the mood for more acoustic-sounding music, then make sure to check out their work!
Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros: “40 Day Dream”
This song captures the dreamlike nature of long summer days going into quiet nights. It’s hard to describe, but you’ll definitely be singing along to this nostalgic song before it ends!
George Ezra: “Barcelona” and “Shotgun”
Both of George Ezra’s albums with his characteristic voice are filled with cheerful summer jams. With a title like “Wanted on Voyage” for his first album, the songs certainly will make you want to travel and vacation this summer!
WALK THE MOON: “Anna Sun” and “Tightrope”
You’ve probably heard of “Shut Up and Dance” but WALK THE MOON actually has a ton of other danceable tracks. These two classic indie-pop/rock hits are go-to favorites of mine for the summertime.
Urban Cone: “Come Back to Me”
Another longtime favorite of mine, Urban Cone’s “Come Back to Me” never fails to lift the mood. If you are looking for an upbeat track, then this song will leave you dancing in a feel-good mood.
Matt and Kim: “Let’s Go”
Yet another old-school summertime jam, Matt and Kim’s “Let’s Go” never gets old. It’s an uplifting tune that is great for playing during morning time runs and literally anytime you want a danceable indie-pop song!
Great Good Fine Ok: “Take it or Leave it”
This list can basically double as an indie-pop dance party playlist and Great Good Fine Ok’s “Take it or Leave it” is no exception! Whether you’re having a relaxing or busy summer, you’re sure to enjoy this tune for a feel-good time.
Vance Joy: “Saturday Sun”
Going from danceable indie-pop tunes to a slightly more indie-folk song, “Saturday Sun” is great for summer drives and is a sing-along sort of song for your indie summer jams!
The Temper Trap: “Sweet Disposition”
A classic song, “Sweet Disposition” carries a dreamlike nostalgic atmosphere that is beautifully ambient and also perfect for lazy summertime days.
Bastille: “These Streets”
I know I’ve basically been saying this for every song, but Bastille is another all-time favorite and you really can’t go wrong with any of their songs this season! This song specifically brings up images of exploring and has an upbeat mood.
Blind Pilot: “The Story I Heard”
Lastly, on a more chill note, indie-folk song “The Story I Heard” is a more acoustic tune that is perfect for relaxing and is sure to tug on your heartstrings this summer.
