Taking a gap year before college can be planned or unplanned. People can use a gap year for different reasons. Some people may think not going to college right away can be a bad thing, but it can actually help you in the future and through life down the road. Taking a gap year is healthy for the mind, body, and soul.
Giving Yourself Time To Grow
There is nothing wrong with giving yourself the extra time you need to learn and grow as an individual to help better yourself in college. You may think you know where you want to go to school and what you want to major in, and maybe you’re right. But by taking a gap year you are giving yourself time to figure out what you want in life and discover new passions and dreams you never even knew existed in your world.
Learn About The World Around You
Traveling during your gap year is a great way to take advantage of the year you have off and learn things about yourself that you wouldn’t have probably learned during your first year of college. Traveling can be important when taking a gap year and can help you achieve great things in college. Being able to learn about other cultures first hand and experience the world is something everyone should do. Traveling helps a person become well rounded, and being well rounded in college can help you socially and academically.
Become Independent First
Taking a gap year does not always mean you have to travel. Working during your gap year, taking time to yourself, volunteering, all are a few examples of things that can help you become independent. It’s important to be able to gain independence and confidence in yourself so that in college you are presenting yourself at your best.
Alleviate Any Pressure
So much pressure is put on students before and during college to be successful and have a career. By taking a gap year before going to college, you are allowing your mind, body, and soul to prepare for the upcoming challenges college can bring. College is some of the best years in people’s lives and feeling confident and prepared is important. Taking a gap year before college will help you get where you need to be, and help you feel the way you want to feel: not just about college, but about yourself as well.
