If you don’t already know what Amazon Prime is, the chances that you’ve been living under a rock are pretty high. Amazon has become the biggest online shopping marketplace for just about anything you can imagine; home decor, gifts, clothing & shoes, tech, entertainment and so much more. If you spend a lot of your time perusing on Amazon even when you don’t need anything (guilty!) it’s probably time to make moves and get Amazon Prime BEFORE Prime Day! Below we’ll give you 11 reasons that make Amazon Prime so incredibly convenient to have – but first, let’s cover the basics.
1) Amazon Prime is an exclusive membership that enables you to get free, two-day shipping on millions of items.
You can sign up for the 30-day trial, and if you’d like to continue your membership, it’s $12.99/month or $119/year. (And you can cancel at any time.)
2) If you’re a student, you can get Amazon Prime for half that price.
But wait – you’ll also get the first 6 months free. Yes, you read that right. Think of all the dorm shopping you can do online, having it delivered right to your doorstep in 2 days without lifting a finger? (Well, technically you have to lift a single finger to click “order”.) But anyway, sounds like students get a pretty sweet deal, huh?!
3) You get to take part in Amazon Prime Day.
This year, Amazon Prime day is July 16th. (Time is ticking people, sign up now!) Essentially, Prime Day is a day for members only to receive exclusive deals with huge savings on everything from TVs and tablets, sneakers and clothes, to kitchen appliances and totally random gadgets you never knew you needed.
Amazon will continuously refresh products throughout the day on this page, and savings for certain products will only be available for a limited time. So if you see something you want, grab it before it’s gone!
4) If you’re especially into tech, Amazon Prime Day will be like Christmas for you.
Last year the biggest purchase was the Amazon echo dot, with Amazon offering a whopping 50% off.
5) Even though Prime Day isn’t until the 16th, Amazon is already offering exclusive deals ahead of time.
Move over Amazon echo, the echo show is the new kid on the block. With the power of Alexa you can “watch video flash briefings, Amazon Video content, see music lyrics, security cameras, photos, weather forecasts, to-do and shopping lists, browse and listen to Audible audiobooks, and more. All hands-free!” You can save $100 on this just by being a prime member.
6) Attention all Netflix and Hulu Lovers: Cancel your account!
With Amazon Prime Video (one of the many perks of Prime) you have access to over 41,000 TV shows and movies. This includes HBO, Starz, Showtime, Cinemax, Sundance and sooo much more.
7) Don’t forget the other benefits that come with Prime.
Other benefits of amazon prime membership: Prime Music, Kindle, Audible, Prime rewards and more…
8) What are Prime Rewards you ask?
If you sign up for an Amazon Prime credit card, you can receive 5% back on Amazon purchases, 5% back on Whole Foods purchases, and 2% back at certain restaurants, gas stations, and drugstores! Talk about too good to be true…
9) Calling all moms and dads:
Buying all the essentials for your little ones comes at a pretty heft price. But Amazon wants to lighten the load with Amazon Family. If you’re a prime member, you can save up to 20% on diapers, baby food and so much more. And just THINK of the insane savings you’ll get on Prime Day alone.
10) Did you say SAME-DAY delivery?
Yes, yes I did. Sometimes free, two-day shipping just isn’t enough (understandable.) Over 8,000 cities are participating in same day delivery on eligible orders over $35. You can see if your city qualifies here. You can also get one-day delivery delivery if same-day delivery is too extra for you. With prime membership, the one-day shipping upgrade is $3.99. But that seems pretty reasonable to me for getting something within 24 hours of ordering it.
Bonus! PRIME NOW
Okay, so Prime Now is probably the most extra Amazon Prime perk that I’m not even sorry about. Depending on your location (big cities only) you can get free delivery in as little as 2 hours. Yes- 2 HOURS.
If you want cookies in your mouth within 2 hours, order them off of Prime Now. If you want to sip on some fresh Kombucha from Whole Foods without leaving your couch, order it off Prime Now. You can also get household items, pet supplies tech and so much more.
If that didn’t convince you to drop everything and sign up for Amazon Prime right now then I don’t know what will. (No seriously, why are you still reading this article?) I can honestly say it’s one the best decisions I’ve ever made. Now excuse me while I go wait for my Prime Now sushi and cold brew delivery from Whole Foods.
