10 At Home Workouts That Will Burn Belly Fat

Want to lose that stubborn belly fat but don’t want the hassle of driving to the gym? No problem! Something I’ve learned from the pandemic is that you don’t need a gym to get fit, you can do all you  need to do in the comfort of your own home.

1. Running Or Walking

As simple as it seems walking can be one of the first steps to burning belly fat. This is a workout that you didn’t even know you were doing on the daily. However, going for a daily walk does more than you think it does. Tune in to your favorite podcast and make it an activity that’s not just good for your mental but physical health by walking the duration of the podcast. You want to step it up a notch? Go for a run! Pop your earphones in and turn your favorite album into a 30- minute run.

2. Burpees

Love them or hate them Burpees are one of the most effective ways to shred belly fat and burn calories. Burpees are a full body workout that focuses of your core. In order to fo this exercise at home make sure you have enough space to perform this activity as it includes a lot of movement. In simple terms a burpee is a jump squat followed by a plank.

3. Mountain Climbers

Mountain Climbers are a calorie burning workout that gets your heart rate going. This exercise is a mix of cardio and muscle building that targets your core. To do this workout you will start in a high plank position and take turns moving each leg towards you chest and returning it to the starting position. This workout focuses on the lower belly, which is where most people tend to ignore. But trust me, this is where you need to focus to get rid of that lower gut you dread.

4. Crunches

Now that we know we need to focus on the lower belly, another exercise that works the same region are crunches. I’m sure most of you know what a crunch is, but for those of you that don’t, don’t worry I’m here to help.

In order to achieve a crunch, you must lie down on you back with your legs bent, and with your hands on opposite shoulders you will sit up only lifting your head and shoulder blades from the ground and lower back down. And if you forget that just think of a sit up cut in half. This exercise will help build those ab muscles and strengthen your core.

5. Russian Twists

This exercise is my go to ab workout and one of my favorites. Russian Twists are a core exercise that work your ab muscles and sheds calories. It also burns fat and love handles, now, some people love them some people despise them, whatever your opinion this workout does burn them.

To perform this workout you will sit on the ground with your legs intertwined hovering and your back slightly raised, like a balancing act. Then interlock you hands placed in front of your chest, and move you hands side to side twisting your core. Why this is one of my favorites is because I always get results and that’s what we’re all looking for!

6. Plank With Bunny Hop

This exercise is a step up from a regular old plank. I found what makes a plank so difficult is the stillness of it, the waiting for the time to be up. This add on gives you a little bit of a distraction and makes it more bearable while also getting rid of belly fat.

In order to do this exercise you will start in a plank position with your feet touching, and bringing your abs in jump your feet to the right landing your knees towards your right elbow, then bring them back to the starting position, and repeat on the left side.

7. Flutter Kicks

If you’re looking to burn belly fat and loose weight flutter kicks are your new best friend. Flutter kicks, also known as scissors, help reshape and tone your lower stomach.

Start by laying down on your back with your arms straight alongside your body with palms facing down or with your hands underneath your rear elevating your hips. Now lift your legs about an inch from the ground squeezing those abs and take turns raising one leg up and down without letting them touch the ground. The slower you go the more you work your abs!

8. Jumping Jacks

Going all the way back to elementary school gym class…Jumping Jacks. Although we think of it more as a kid friendly workout, there are so many benefits to it. Jumping Jacks are a full body cardio workout that can be done anywhere especially at home. Jumping Jacks are pretty simple, you start standing up with your arms by your side, then jump landing your legs about shoulder width apart and stretching you arms above your head. This exercise burns calories and belly fat in a matter of minutes!

9. Stutter Steps

Stutter Steps is an easier exercise to work those ab muscles. In order to achieve this exercise you must first start in a standing position then extend your left leg back and raise your arms straight above your head. Then bend your arms and left knee towards your chest similar to a standing crunch, then position back to the start and repeat and eventually switch sides. This exercise is a full body workout that engages your core and burns belly fat!

10. High Knees

This is another one of my go to at home workout because it’s so easy. High Knees is a high intensity interval training exercise, AKA a HIIT workout. I know from experience that HIIT workouts can be intimidating, but high knees are far from that!

To do high knees you start by standing up straight and alternatively bring your knee to your chest with a slight hop in between each knee. That’s literally it! See HIIT workouts aren’t as scary as they sound! This workout is a cardio full body exercise that will burn belly fat and lots of calories!
