An Open Letter To My High School BFF
To my high school BFF –
You know who you are. Who else was there for the coffee runs before class, the boy crushes, prom, graduation? All I can say is, thank you. Thank you for being my person since we met in those days of awkward outfits and bad eyebrows. You’ve helped me so much throughout high school, and I just hope our friendship survives college. You’ve been there for every major moment, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
You are AMAZING. You need to know that, and ALWAYS REMEMBER that.
We met freshman year, but many people meet their high-school BFF at some other point in high school – either through sports, clubs, extracurriculars, etc. You were just someone in my class and I never looked at you and thought that soon enough, you would be my person. Nonetheless, you became the Cristina Yang to my Meredith Grey. Sometimes, you meet people and you just click, and we did. We haven’t let go of that “click” since then.
BUT here’s the thing, high school is hard. Friendships fall out. Friendships go through a lot of whirlwinds, drama, and moments throughout those years. There are the good, and there are the bad. We survived the bad, and honestly, we’ll probably have more “bad” moments, but that’s just life. Disagreements and fights don’t define our strong bond.
I think the part that I love the most about you being my best friend all throughout high school is that we saw each other grow into the women we are today. We’ve supported and motivated each other for years, and that beautiful aspect of our friendship has not changed. I’ve realized now in college, people come and go, and it’s so rare to find someone like you. I don’t think I have enough characters to describe the love I have for you and what is so great about you. Thank you for all the hour long phone calls and always trying to maintain contact with me, even though we’re both at different parts of our lives. We’ve met different people and been to different places, but our friendship is one thing that’ll never be different.
Here’s to more laughs, memories, and inside jokes we’ll create. I can’t wait to spend another summer with you. Who else is going to take those bomb Instagram pictures for you? I got you, and I’ll always have your back.
