Los Angeles has an assortment of amazing vegan restaurants that vegans, vegetarians, and meat-eaters alike can enjoy. Whether you’re an LA native or visiting out of town, give some of these restaurants a go on your next lunch or dinner date. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
1. Gracias Madre
I’m no vegan myself, but Gracias Madre is one of my all time favorite food places. Like, ever. Located in West Hollywood, this vegan restaurant serves a modern take on Mexican cuisine, cooked to perfection. Decorated beautifully with ivory white walls and wooden floors, customers can sit inside or on the outside patio, which is decadent with greenery. Start your experience off with some of their famous cocktails, and don’t be afraid to ask your server for recommendations for mains (I personally recommend the tacos). Critics rave about the ambiance and food, perfect for anything from a girls’ night out to an intimate dinner with your SO. If you like Mexican food, definitely give Gracias Madre a try the next time you’re in WeHo.
2. Real Food Daily
A vegan take on classic American food, Real Food Daily will win you over within the first bite. Although on the pricier side, you definitely get the bang for your buck with this vegan restaurant. The ambiance is casual, but they do offer beer and wine, if you want to have one with dinner. Comfort food at it’s finest, RFD serves everything from nachos to decadent sandwiches and pizza. However, if you’re feeling like you want to stay on the healthier side, this restaurant also offers an assortment of pressed juices, smoothies, and a variety of salads. Stop by Real Food Daily the next time you’re shopping on Melrose and are craving some delicious vegan food!
3. Doomie’s Home Cookin’
There’s no other way to describe Doomie’s other than vegan junk food to the MAX. Whether you’re a carnivore who’s skeptical about veganism or a vegan craving something naughty, Doomie’s is the place to be to fulfill all your sordid desires. Located in Hollywood and open until 3 am, this restaurant is the perfect place to grab a bite to eat after a late night out. It offers an array of “meat” and “cheese” filled dishes, and trust me; if you didn’t know it was vegan, you’d have no idea it was plant-based. Sandwiches come with a side of fries, which you can upgrade to animal style, garlic, or any of the other fry-filled delicacies they offer. For dessert, you won’t be disappointed; Doomie’s delivers in the bakery department, although I personally recommend their famous fried oreos. Try out Doomie’s the next time you have the drunchies, munchies, or are simply craving something delicious.
4. Cafe Gratitude
With locations in both Downtown LA and Venice, Cafe Gratitude is 100% plant-based goodness. On the healthier side than the aforementioned vegan restaurants, this cafe is perfect for a wholesome brunch with friends or a cute dinner date with your SO. All of their menu items are titled a “grateful” adjective; i.e. “peaceful,” “humble,” etc., and you order by saying “I am ‘insert’.”Additionally, there’s always a question of the day, asked by an enthusiastic server. Maybe it’s corny, maybe it’s cute, but it’s definitely the vibe and will make you feel like you’re in LA.
5. Sage Vegan Bistro
Sage Vegan Bistro can be described as well executed vegan cuisine. Located in both Echo Park and Culver City, Sage has a huge menu chock full of plant-based options. Their choices are an eclectic mix of different cultures, so you can satisfy any number of your cravings. Offering indoor and outdoor seating, the ambience and decor screams sexy but cute. For anyone craving a drink with dinner, Sage has a full bar and is a good place to stop by for happy hour. There’s an ample amount of parking, but if you can’t find any, there’s also valet. Service is fast and friendly, and the food will definitely not disappoint.
