Veganism is on the rise all around the world and amazing vegan restaurants are popping up everywhere. It can be difficult to find good vegan food in smaller towns, but in bigger cities, it almost seems like there are endless options to choose from now. I’ve tried my fair share of vegan food in NYC and here are five of the best vegan restaurants in the city!
1. Double Zero
Double Zero is one of chef Matthew Kenney’s many vegan restaurants around the world, and it’s famous for its incredible gourmet vegan pizza. Located in the East Village of Manhattan, this chic little restaurant is always bustling with vegans and non-vegans alike due to its amazing menu and all-around good vibes.
I have been here with both my friends and my family who normally don’t like vegan food, but Double Zero has everyone’s approval. Their various range of vegan pizza and appetizers attract a large crowd and have given the restaurant the recognition it deserves. Don’t miss out on this place just because you’re afraid of trying a bit of vegan food!
2. Orchard Grocer
If you talk to nearly any vegan living in New York City, Orchard Grocer will probably be on their list of favorite restaurants. This all-vegan market that sells a wide range of sandwiches, soft-serve ice cream, and more, is a must-visit if you’re on the hunt for good vegan food in the city. They also have bowl options if you’re looking for a more healthy option for a meal!
10/10 would recommend stopping by this vegan deli and market.
3. Candle 79
Candle 79 is a more upscale vegan restaurant on the Upper East Side — the type of restaurant you should have your parents take you to when they’re in town visiting. I went here with my family during one of my first trips to NYC before moving there, and everyone loved it! They have a big menu with a bunch of different options that will please everyone, and since it’s a bit nicer of a restaurant, it doesn’t necessarily feel like you’re eating vegan food.
Candle 79 is the perfect option if you’re looking for super good quality, upscale vegan food that everyone will love!
4. Bar Verde
Bar Verde is another one of the famous chef Matthew Kenney’s vegan restaurants, sitting directly next to the previously mentioned Double Zero. Finding good Mexican food in New York City can be difficult unless you’re willing to do a lot of research and potentially trek outside of Manhattan, but Bar Verde sets the bar high, especially being a vegan restaurant. The restaurant boasts an impressive menu with options ranging from jackfruit tacos to vegan nachos, and you can even end your dinner with vegan churros.
Their food is amazing and this definitely has to be one of my favorite vegan restaurants I’ve ever been to.
5. Screamers Pizzeria
Do you vegans ever miss picking up a big slice of pizza after a night out? Well, I have good news for you! Screamers Pizzeria in Brooklyn has potentially some of the best and most fun vegan pizzas you’ll ever try, in a super casual, New York pizza style restaurant. They have a huge range of different pizzas like Buffalo which comes with buffalo cauliflower and vegan cheese, Chorizo pizza, and of course all of the classics like cheese and pepperoni!
If you can’t eat with your friends at the famous Joe’s Pizza, take them here and have them try a slice of vegan pizza — they’ll be amazed at how good this stuff is!
