Set aside a few days and take the trip up North to explore all that it has to offer. Snap a pic riding it’s famous cable cars, stroll along Fisherman’s Wharf, investigate infamous Alcatraz, and drive along the Golden Gate Bridge. San Luis Obispo

San Luis Obispo lies halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco, so if you’re unable to commit to those bigger cities, SLO is a safe bet. Famous for it’s agriculture, it’s a sleepy college town based off the coast in rolling green hills. Spend a weekend hiking in the mountains and enjoying it’s scenic views. Head to Downtown SLO for some shopping, or grab drinks at the many bars it hosts and get familiar with the college crowd. A word of advice; hit up High Street Deli for some of the best sandwiches around before you leave. You won’t regret it.

Joshua Tree

If you want to take a day trip, or are looking to camp out under the stars, Joshua Tree is a safe bet. Based inland a little bit outside of Los Angeles, you’ll be sure to feel like you’re on a different planet in this small town. Take a look at the quirky trees it’s named for in the national park, and grab a bite to eat in the neighboring small town. You’ll feel like you’re in a midwestern movie; it’s a great getaway from everyday life. Make sure you bring copious amounts of sunblock, though, as temperatures can reach the 100s, especially in the midst of Summer.

If you want something a bit more sophisticated, hit up Downtown SB and try out some of the many bars and restaurants it’s home to after a day at the beach. Santa Barbara is the perfect place to enjoy good food, drinks, and beaches, and will give you the relaxing getaway you might be looking for.
