7 Ways To Eat Healthy On A Budget

There are many ways to eat healthy. However, eating healthy on a budget can be tricky. Normally, eating healthy can be very expensive so here are 7 ways to eat healthy on a budget.

1. Make A List and Stick To It

It is super important to have a list and stick to it. Organization is key if you want to eat healthy. Think about it, let’s say you go to the store with no list. There is no planning so you will most likely pick up anything. Throwing a bunch of items in your cart and hoping for the best will not help you. What will happen if you do that is by the end of the week most of those things will go bad because you didn’t use them. Spoiled food means wasted money.

2. Buy Generic

A lot of people turn their noses up at generic food, the question is, why? You are getting the same item without the fancy designs on the box. Name brand foods are such a scam. Do you want to know why they are more expensive than generic? It is because you are paying more money for those fancy designs on the box. Honestly, there is nothing special about name brand foods. I am positive kids don’t give a crap if their bowl of sugary grains comes from Malt-O-Meal or Kellogg’s, so why should you?

3. Make the Circulars Your Best Friend

Check you store’s circular every week. No, scratch that, check and compare your store’s circular to other stores’ circular every week. Circulars always advertise what is on sale and some sales are better than others so you always want to make sure that you are getting the best price.

4. Meal Prep

Meal prepping isn’t just for people who live in the gym or who are on a diet. It is a great way to save money and to make sure everything in the fridge is being eaten. If you eat everything in the fridge by the end of the week, you spent your money well and you minimized waste!

5. Repurpose Leftovers

You know how the best part of Thanksgiving is the leftovers? Think of your meals as Thanksgiving! For example, let’s say you made meatloaf, what are you going to do, throw it away? No! Now, I am not saying you should eat meatloaf for the rest of the week, you can repurpose it into a completely different meal. You can take that meatloaf and turn it into a topping for some pasta.

6. Buy Marked Down Foods

Every store has a shelf filled with products that are extremely discounted because they are about to go bad. Buy them! You have a freezer right? Buy that discounted chicken and put it in the freezer for another day. Now, I am not saying just buy it because it’s a good deal that would be an extreme waste of money. Buy discounted items that you know for a fact you are going to use. If you want to eat healthy and save some money marked down foods are the way to go.

7. Start An Herb Garden

Why buy “fresh” packaged herbs all the time, it’s a waste of money. You know how people raise chickens for the eggs? Well guess what, they save a ton on eggs every week. I am not telling you to start raising chickens but it is basically the same concept when it comes to herbs. You should buy herb plants, they’re genuinely fresh and you don’t have to keep going to the store when the ingredients are right on your windowsill.
