Whether you’re in a relationship or you’ve just met that someone special it can be hard to think of original ideas for date night, especially if you are looking for something to do on a tight budget. However, you’ll be pleased to know there are plenty of cheap and fun dates you can go on around Kingston University, here is a quick list of 15 ideas to get you started.

1. Go Climbing at White Spider Urban Climbing

An urban climbing centre is a date for the more adventurous but if you’re physically fit it can be a good fun way to impress your date. Don’t worry if you’re a beginner they have bouldering too which is easier for newbies. You’ll not only have fun, but you’ll also get a great workout in the process and once you’ve worn yourself out you can head on over to the onsite cafe for drinks.

2. Take in a performance at Kingston’s Rose Theatre

Going to the theatre is always a good way to spend the evening, but there no need to go up the expensive West End of London, Kingston has its very own local theatre. The Rose Theatre has four levels of seating starting in the pit, where customers bring their own cushions and sit on the floor for as little as £10 each but don’t worry there are also seats.

3. Visit Banquet Records

Why not take your date to a good old-fashioned independent record store, you can buy records and CD’s, perhaps now would be a good time to decide on what you and your dates song is! Banquet Records also has regular in-store shows, signings and other events that you can take your date to.

4. Watch Crack Comedy at The Grey Horse

If you are looking for a fun Friday night date with plenty of laughs, this is the one for you. Crack Comedy is Kingston’s longest running comedy club and always attracts the best and funniest acts and students get a discount.

5. Do Some Pottery Painting at Wendys Workshop

If you want to show off your artistic flare this is the date for you, pottery painting can be a lot of fun. To add to its appeal you get to keep a souvenir at the end of it all when you pick up your completed pieces five days later. Wendys Workshop will let you book a table in advance so you can be sure there’s space for you.

6. Go Bowling at Tenpin

Sometimes the classic dates are the most fun, and you can’t go wrong with an evening bowling at Tenpin, especially with some food and drinks thrown in. If you make date night a Thursday you can take advantage of their deal to get two games of bowling, a sharing platter and a drink for just £10 a person.

7. Visit Canbury Gardens and it’s riverside pub

Canbury Gardens is a good place to go and relax, spend some time together outdoors maybe even have a picnic of pre-packed yummy food. During your visit be sure to check out the pub that sits inside the park (The Boaters Inn) and have a few drinks by the river, its atmosphere is lovely and there’s a great vibe all year round.

8. Take a boat ride down the Thames

You don’t need to be a rower to enjoy the river when you’re in Kingston, you and your date can jump on a boat without all that effort. Turk Launches is a 300-year-old riverboat company that cruises along one of the most scenic stretches of the Thames, leaving from Kingston daily.

9. Grab some street food at the Ancient Market

Why not visit the Ancient Market and take in all the delicious smells of street food from around the world. Grab some samples at the stalls before choosing your lunch and eating it al fresco on the go whilst you peruse what else the stalls and shops have to offer.

10. Visit Outside the Box Comedy Club

This is another comedy night bringing you the best in stand up, but with this one, you get the chance to visit the infamous Fighting Cocks pub because that’s where Outside the Box Comedy Club is held, once a month.

11. Get lost in a maze at Hampton Court Palace

14. Take in Some Arts at the cornerHOUSE

The cornerHOUSE is a community arts centre that is run entirely by volunteers so you’ll find all of the activities are cheap as well as fun. There is a lot to do at the cornerHOUSE including Art Exhibitions, Poetry Readings, Plays and Comedy Nights to name a few.

15. Take a Trip to the Movies Down at the Rotunda Centre

Another classic date night staple is the cinema, in the age of Netflix and chill it’s nice to go out to watch a movie once in a while. The cinema most local to Kingston University is actually the ODEON at the Rotunda Centre. You’ll be pleased to know it offers student discounts on tickets so you can make the pennies stretch a little further and grab your date some popcorn too.
