The 10 Of The Most Telltale Signs You Went to CSUN

Here are the most classic signs you went to CSUN as a student. These signs show how most students live their college life at CSUN!

Every university has its own personality. It’s own idiosyncrasies. And of course, it’s own student body to make it all possible. If you went to California State University, Northridge, chances are you recognize a couple of things in other people that scream, “I’m a Matador!” Here are 10 signs you went to CSUN!

1. You complain about the parking!

If you’re a Matador, the signs you went to CSUN show you know you have to plan for parking. I’m talking like an hour in advance! There is no doubt that you know someone who has been late to class because parking is a nightmare. Even professors have had enough. Some of them include parking as an ill excuse for being late to class in their syllabi. Now you know it’s real!

2. You’ve almost been run over by a bicycle or a skateboard!

Given that CSUN is not a huge campus, the amount of bicycles and skateboards that fit on campus are surprising! If you are a seasoned Matador, then you have probably mastered the art of dodging these mobile beasts, but in case you are still a noob make sure you think fast!

3. The Library reminds you of  Star Trek or Criminal Minds!

Everyone knows the signs you went to CSUN if you know the Oviatt Library is famous!  It should have its own IMBD page. From movies to TV shows, our very own library has rubbed elbows with some of Hollywood’s most famous stars. So next time you take your friends or your parents out on a tour, be sure to stop by the library and mention all of its many accomplishments.

4. You know that our real mascot should be the squirrel!

There is more squirrels on campus than there are matadors, so if you ask me the change in mascot is a no-brainer. These are probably the friendliest squirrels in the world! They will gladly join you for lunch and if given the opportunity, they’ll probably even steal some of it!

5. You’ve had coffee at the Freudian Sip!

The campus coffee shop with the best theme ever! Trust me, this place is not just for Psychology majors. Everyone could enjoy a hot Cup of  Jo in a id (small), ego (medium), or superego (large) size.  You’ve probably crammed for an exam while consuming insane amounts of coffee here. pun intended!

6. Going to the “SRC” gym is so easy, yet so hard!

Even though as a CSUN student you get a free gym membership, you just never seem to find the time to go.  I mean there’s only so much free time between classes and you have to do homework after that. You can’t cancel on your dog park date with your pup again! Who has the time, really?

7. You’ve gone to a show at the VPAC!

It is so convenient to have  the Valley Performing Arts Center right on campus! Going to the ballet or the orchestra or even a lecture by a renown author has never been more accessible. You’ve probably seen a concert or two here or did you catch that David Sedaris talk?

8. You own  loads of CSUN merchandise!

Matadors take school pride seriously! That means that we will represent even if we don’t go to the sporting events. If you’re a Matador, your closet probably consists of a CSUN T-Shirt, a CSUN hoodie, some CSUN sweats you probably wear to bed, and a CSUN beanie or scarf to keep you safe from the rare California winter. Not to mention, you are probably having your morning coffee out of a CSUN mug. These are the obvious signs you went to CSUN, go Matadors!

9. You’ve been to the Farmer’s Market!

Yes, there is fresh produce there, but we really go for the food trucks and the funnel cakes. Sorry not Sorry! Regardless of this, the Farmer’s Market is a Tuesday essential among all CSUN students. Pick up some fresh produce for your week long meal prep!

10. The Matador Bookstore is your one stop shop for everything!

It has everything you may need! Whether you need textbooks, notebooks, or clothes, the bookstore has it. It even has a Freudian Sip next door, so you’ll never go hungry. With everything you need in one place, there is no need to ever leave campus.
