Keeping a college blog may not be on your current list of priorities. Initially, I started my college blog because a teacher in high school had suggested it would be a good way to get my writing voice out into the world. What I learned throughout the process was that keeping a college blog helped me get that degree in unsuspecting ways.

When I wrote in my college blog consistently, I had a lot of engagement. Friends from college and childhood became connected through my college journey. I was also able to see how during those long stretches where I went without posting, I got the constant what’s happening with your blog messages. Even if your college blog doesn’t receive as many hits as a gossip Instagram account, it is good practice for holding yourself accountable. There is an audience out there wanting to hear or read about your college experience and a blog may be the way to convey that information.

Whether it’s through learning time management, removing yourself from toxic situations, or finally getting the hang of registration that progression will be extremely valuable. When you keep track of such a monumental part of your life, the small details will inspire you to keep pushing forward.

3. It’s A Chance To Share Your Influences

From professors to fellow classmates, a college blog allows you to let the individuals who inspire you know the impact they’re creating. It may seem like noting trips to the mall with college classmates is no big deal but sometimes you are fortunate enough to have these classmates turn into best friends. Think of it as a public scrapbook that those around you can revel in. The amount of information you choose to disclose on your college blog is completely up to you but creating a circle of encouragement will definitely help you reach that degree.

4. Sometimes You Have To Vent

As you’ve probably experienced, college can be difficult. Some days everything seems to just fall apart or a meeting with your professor goes left as soon as it begins. Much like a diary, a college blog allows you to let those feelings out and sometimes you find others who are in the same situation! Many people in different locations start a college blog and can relate to those universal issues you experience as a student. Since I spent a majority of my college blog documenting specific classes I took, it provided a brief history of my college experience whenever I met someone new on campus. There were a few noted instances when I found out new friends were actually in those same classes with me in the past which showed just how small college is. It’s a small world and you never know who is going to come in! This shared experience can inspire you to register for future classes together and having someone else to share in assignments is always helpful.

6. You Get To Combine Passion & Education

If you have an affinity for writing like I do, keeping a college blog is the perfect combination. Not only do you get to keep up your writing practice, but you get to process education milestones and missteps using the only method that works for you. You may fall off on keeping up your college blog after a while, but I think that having one at all is a worthwhile process.
