1. The Kissing Booth
If you can take a little cheesiness, try watching The Kissing Booth. Once you get past the slight predictability of the plot and the silliness of some of the dialogue, you get a totally adorable love story that is a perfect guilty pleasure movie. The story centers around two best friends Elle and Lee, and Lee’s older brother Flynn that is totally off limits to Elle to date. Can you see where this is going?
2. Penelope
Penelope is a heartwarming film starring Christina Ricci and James McAvoy. It’s about a girl who is cursed as a child to have the snout of a nose and the only way to break the curse is to marry “one of her own kind,” being a wealthy socialite. Her journey to break this curse ensues.
3. 13 Going on 30
This is a romcom classic. Starring Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo, 13 Going on 30 is about a 13 year old girl who is sick of being a teenager and wishes to be in her “dirty thirties,” thinking being an adult will solve all of her problems. This wish comes true as she magically becomes 30, but soon comes to find out relationships and being older isn’t as easy as she thought it was.
4. How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days
As a how-to columnist, Andie Anderson is assigned to write a column titled “How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days.” This essentially entails doing all the “wrong” things in a relationship (i.e. be clingy) in order to prove that there are certain things women should avoid doing in relationships. Andie meets businessman Ben Barry who has a business deal of his own to get a woman to fall in love with him. The two essentially attempt to go through each of their own plans without the other knowing, all while being extremely funny and endearing.
5. Love Actually
This one has far too many overlapping love stories to give a basic plot overview. What you do need to know is that this movie is a Christmas classic that works year round, and that it has a star studded cast that does an incredible job of providing a heartwarming movie that never gets old.
6. Forgetting Sarah Marshall
If you are looking for a romcom that is heavier on the comedy, and maybe even just a little raunchy, look no further than Forgetting Sarah Marshall. This movie stars Jason Segel, Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Russell Brand. It centers around a mediocre musician who has recently been dumped by a successful tv actress and travels to Hawaii to forget about her. Upon arrival, he comes to discover that his ex and her new boyfriend are staying at the same hotel, which then makes it that much harder to forget about her.
7. Just Friends
When a movie stars Ryan Reynolds, it has to be funny. Just Friends is about Chris Brander (Ryan Reynolds) and how he has always had feelings for his high school crush, but was never able to win her over. Ten years after high school, he comes home for the holidays and tries to get together with her now that he is largely successful.
8. Set It Up
This new Netflix original movie stars Zoey Deutch and Glen Powell and is about two assistants that have controlling and highly demanding bosses they must work for to reach their dream jobs. In an attempt to get their bosses off their backs, the two set them up with each other and in the process grow closer to one another. This movie is super entertaining with continuous witty banter between the two leads. This is one of the best romcom movies to watch on Netflix!
9. Bridget Jones’s Baby
After splitting from boyfriend Mark Darcy, Bridget Jones decides to focus on her career, but then ends up beginning a new relationship with a man named Jack. Shortly after, she discovers that she is pregnant. The only problem is, she doesn’t know who the father is. If you watched the first movies in the Bridget Jones trilogy, this is a must-see as Renée Zellweger is able to capture the charm of Bridget once again.
10. The Princess Diaries
Starring Anne Hathaway, this is a charming movie about a teenage girl from San Francisco who finds out her grandmother is a queen, and she is the heir to the throne. She begins “princess lessons” and goes through several large relationship changes with the people closest to her. This is definitely one of the best romcom movies to watch on Netflix!
