The Six Most Instagrammable Places In Charlottesville

Want to take a cute picture for your Instagram while you're in Charlottesville? Society19 knows the best Insta-worthy places in Charlottesville!

Cville, as we locals call it, has history (hello, President Jefferson), vineyards, mountains and lots and lots of Wahoos – the nickname for University of Virginia students. It’s a college town, but it has so much more to offer. Lots of people come for weddings, wine tours, college graduations and mountain hikes. If you come to visit places in Charlottesville, be sure to get a photo of yourself at some of our fave spots. Then give a shout out to the city at #cville or #hooville on Instagram. We will be waiting for you!

1. IX Art Park

IX Art Park (or just the Art Park) is home to beautiful murals, statues, sculptures, live art shows and performances. It is one of the favorite gathering places in Charlottesville to enjoy beautiful installations made by local Charlottesville artists and of course, take an Instagram with the giant butt. Just search the hashtag #TheLoveButt and you’ll see why this sculpture hails as one of the most popular places to take a picture for Instagram in Charlottesville. It’s one of those things that just feels wrong not to Instagram.

2. The Rotunda

There is nothing prettier than a picture of the ‘Tunda on a sunny day. Especially in the fall when the leaves burn with vibrant colors of yellow, orange and red, or the winter if you are lucky enough to see it in the snow. Let’s face it, basically, the Rotunda is always photo ready regardless of the weather. Some people even say that it’s impossible to take a bad picture of the Rotunda, which is no surprise since its beauty was inspired by ancient Roman architecture and designed by Thomas Jefferson.

3. The I Love Charlottesville A Lot Wall Art

This wall art perfectly sums up my sentiments regarding Charlottesville. This spot is a popular Instagram option because it always gets great lighting and the white backdrop makes it easy to take a clear picture. Whether you’re with a big group of friends, alone in the picture or just taking a picture of the art by itself, this is a fun place to get a shot of your trip.

4. Humpback Mountain

This is a picture you have to work for as it involves hiking to the top of Humpback Rock, a popular route among students and locals, where you accumulate over 3,000 feet in altitude. But, once you get to the top, the breathtaking view makes it worth the effort. The views look over the Shenandoah Valley with the Blue Ridge mountains as the backdrop and if you can wake up for sunrise or be in time for the sunset, the pictures are even more beautiful.

5. Charlottesville Downtown Mall

The historic Charlottesville Downtown Mall offers over 30 delicious places to eat, around 120 shops to peak in as you stroll along the strip and of course great photo ops. You will fall in love with this charming brick-paved mall, lined with trees and consisting of historic buildings that have been renovated and restored, giving it a touch of history and one of the most aesthetically pleasing outdoors spots in Charlottesville.

6. Carter’s Mountain Sunsets

Carter’s Mountain continues to be one of the most popular attractions for students and local residents to visit year round. Be it apple-picking in the fall, visiting on a warm spring night, or going to their sunset series in the summer, Carter’s Mountain is a must-see. One of the best times to photograph the scenic orchard is during their Thursday Evening Sunset Series. The orchard is open all day and closes at 9 p.m., with free admission, live music, Bold Rock hard cider and wine and of course an amazing sunset – giving you the perfect opportunity for a nice drink and a sweet Insta.
