13 Reasons Why Season 2 Release Date: What Will Mr. Porter do?
13 Reasons Why Season 1 was a turbulence of emotions for all viewers. The full disclosure of Hannah Baker’s suicide, the unexpected word that Alex Standall shot himself in the head, and a brief preview of Mr. and Mrs. Baker’s reaction to hearing their daughter’s tape- left audiences across the world wondering what 13 Reasons Why Season 2 would have in store.
Mr. Porter
Aside, a piece of the story that stands out among others is Mr. Porter and his misguided attempt to save the life of Hannah Baker. She came to him on her last day on earth, only for her to leave his office feeling more defeated than we she came in.
Last we saw Mr. Porter in Season 1, Clay Jensen had relentlessly laid the cards on the table for him that he was Hannah’s 13th reason why she killed herself. To which he claimed that Hannah did not come to visit him nor vent to him that she was thinking about killing herself. The audience sees first-hand the conversation exchanged between herself and Mr. Porter and how miserably he failed her.
Hannah’s “one last try”
She expressed thoughts of suicide and timidly shared that Bryce Walker forced herself onto her. She excluded his name in fear of what result may stem from her confession, to which Mr. Porter outwardly responded “You think so? But, you’re not sure? Did you tell him to stop? Did you tell him no? Maybe you consented and you changed your mind?”
We held our breath and hoped for something smarter to come out of his mouth, only to be let down with his final advice to “move on.” It was then, that all viewers lost their faith in the good judgement of Mr. Porter.
Season 2 hypothesis
This leads us to question: What will Mr. Porter do in 13 Reasons Why Season 2? In my 13 Reasons Why Season 2 script, the audience would watch as he listened to Hannah’s last tape.
His guilt would bear a great weight on his shoulders that it would prompt him to go to the Baker’s house to confess to Mr. and Mrs. Baker his failure to save their daughter. He would go all the way up to the door to knock, only to turn back around.
Later, Mr. Porter would be put on the stand at trial. At first, he would beat around every bush to deny all accusations made against him. He would acknowledge that Hannah came to see him on her last day but negate she said anything that caused him to believe that she wanted to kill herself.
As he walks off the stand, he makes eye contact with Mr. and Mrs. Baker, grief-stricken and exhausted. To which he would walk back on the stand, and confess. He would illustrate their conversation verbatim and admit that he failed to take the appropriate measures to handle Hannah’s situation.
While we can all agree that Bryce better be put away for years for what he did to Hannah, I anticipate consequences in store for Mr. Porter as well.
