5 Tips to Surviving Group Projects

If I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard college students express their hatred for group projects I’d be rich. There’s no doubt about it that group projects can be a pain in the butt. You have to work around people’s schedules, you’ll probably find yourself taking on more responsibility in the group, and the worst part is that your project grade is often worth more than any other grade in the class. Unfortunately, group projects are unavoidable but if you keep these tips in mind you’ll be fine. Keep reading for 5 tips to surviving group projects!


1. Be open minded.

Staying open-minded can set the tone for your group. By doing so you’re more accepting of people and their ideas. It’s also a good way for you to let go of a need to control.


2. Get to know each other.

Your group members don’t have to know every detail about your life but you should get to know them, and them you! Getting to know each other makes everyone comfortable and makes it easier to interact and work together.


3. Communicate with your group.

The key to a successful group project is communication. When everyone’s on the same page things tend to run a lot smoother.

4. Set individual assignments and deadlines for yourself and each group member.

Group projects can sometimes be overwhelming, there’s so much to do in what feels like so little time but if you have a set deadline to get things accomplished you’ll feel more relaxed.


5. Stay positive!

There will be times when things don’t always go as planned. If you find yourself in this situation stay positive. It’s the best thing you can do.
