  1. The Batman

  • The 2022 reboot of The Dark Knight had everyone mixed. Fans were eagerly awaiting the arrival of Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader. In March of 2022, we were given a noir styled detective thriller and it was amazing. This film delivered in everything fans were hoping for while also serving as the newest interpretation of the character for this new generation. Matt Reeves is a very talented director and his dedication to the source material paid off. Robert Pattinson had a lot to live up to and he delivered. His version of Batman was different enough from the rest, but still true to the character. Supported with an amazing supporting cast consisted of Zoe Kravitz, Collin Farrell, Paul Dano, Jeffery Wright and John Turturro. This beautifully gritty story explored the world of Batman in a way unlike any other while reimagining some iconic characters. This film has action, suspense, and heart. It’s safe to say that this film not only lived up to all the expectations, but it surpassed them. With so much care and heart put into this narrative, it only makes sense to see it as one of the best films of the year.

  • Directed by Julien Lutz, this film brought back the 80’s horror slasher vibes that everyone loves so much. This is a smaller film that brought life back into the slasher genre. From the start, you know where this film is going to go, but it’s the characters and their charismatic personalities that keep you going. The typical slasher character is introduced in a very eerie and uncomfortable way. The antagonists in this film always maintain a dark and twisted feeling with them. You can’t help but tense up whenever you see them in the background just watching. This film succeeds in exactly what it was made to do. It makes you laugh and the turns you upside down to make you feel afraid and uncomfortable. With one of the most visually pleasing murder scenes out of any film this year, X easily becomes one of the best films of the year so far. This is a great date night film or film to watch with a big group of friends. There’s no question that this film will continue on to become a classic horror film from our generation of cinema.

  1. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

  • The multiverse is now wide open, and anything is possible. For a lot of fans, this was the most anticipated film of the year. This film not only followed up the story of Doctor Strange, but also continued the story of fan favorite The Scarlet Witch after the events of her own series Wandavision. After the major success and huge surprises in Spider-Man No Way Home, fans were left fantasizing about what could happen in this film. With Marvel alumni director Sam Raimi back in the chair, anything was possible. Fans were given a lot of surprises in this film. Actors such as Patrick Stewart, Anson Mount and Hayley Atwell reprised a version of the characters they have portrayed in the past. Perhaps one of the biggest surprises came from the reveal of actor John Krasinski as Mr. Fantastic. This was a dream come true for fans everywhere. Put together with elements of horror and some great action sequences and you get yourself another great addition to The Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is one film that will greatly affect the direction of the Marvel Universe for years to come. With so much being accomplished in this film, it’s easy to see why it’s one of the best films of the year.

  • Robert Eggers is one of the biggest up and coming directors of today. He produced two amazing films that twisted your minds. He is a master of storytelling and engaging his audiences. This narrative is brutal. A classic story about revenge and betrayal. This film has been considered by many fans and critiques as one of the most artistic film in the last few years. There was a lot of care and time put into this narrative and with such an amazing cast, it’s hard to not consider this one of the best films of the year. Alexander Skarsgård, Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicole Kidman, Ethan Hawke, and Willem Dafoe all deliver mesmerizing performances. This film holds great tension and chemistry between all the characters mixed with the brutality from the time it’s set in. This film is also beautiful to just look at. Eggers teams up again with Jarin Blaschke who was the cinematographer of The Witch and The Lighthouse as well. So, it’s no question as to why this film looks as beautiful and real as it does.

  • The original Top Gun films is a timeless classic. With the great Tom Cruise leading the film into an emotional and intense Navy films ever made. When the sequel was announced a few years ago, fans were skeptical about the return. With lots of classic films receiving reboots or sequels that don’t do well, there was a lot of criticism towards the newly announced Top Gun: Maverick. Luckily fans were rewarded. Not only did this film celebrate and pay respects to the first film, but it added to the story and produced another emotional and intense epic. So much care went into producing this film. Strong themes of romance, friendship and loyalty are explored in this film. Added together with breathtaking action sequences, and you have a film that fans are calling Tom Cruises best performance ever. Fans have even been split as to whether or not this sequel out did the original or not. This film has been receiving so much praise in the short amount of time it’s been released. It’s amazing that this film is already considered one of the best films of the year. With so much talent and heart in it, it’s hard not to understand why.
