1. Catch up with some old friends.

It’s always good to catch up with people you don’t see very often anymore. Especially if you had close friends back home, the summer gives you a good chance to relive the memories you made.

2. Visit the high school you went to.

That is, if you can brave the hallways one more time. But it can be rewarding to drop in at your high school and say hi to your favorite teachers again. Your teachers will appreciate you coming to see them again, especially when you talk to them about your college studies and adventures…

3. Sit waterside with friends.

You might not have a beach near where you live, but there are still tons of places to go throw on a swimsuit and hang out with friends. From pools and water parks, to Lake Erie and countless other smaller lakes throughout Ohio, you can find plenty of good places to cool off on the hot summer days up ahead.

4. Have an ice cream date!

Even if you don’t have a significant other or someone you’re interested in to take on a date, getting ice cream or fro-yo with some good friends is a great way to bond and enjoy time together during the summer.

5. Pick a tranquil spot in nature to go camping.

Spending a couple nights under the stars is always a great time. Whether you decide to take a tent and stake out a spot, or you’d rather reserve a cabin at a national park, spending some time in the great outdoors is one of the best things for you.

6. Sip wine and roast marshmallows around a bonfire.

You can knock this one out along with camping, but if you’re not about that outdoor life you can spend a great evening with friends, some firewood, s’mores, and cool drinks just about anywhere. Even in your own backyard!

8. Make that money and find yourself a summer job.

If you’re trying to pass time, why not be productive and make some money? You can get a summer job just about anywhere, but there’s also a ton of opportunities at summer camps and other recreational positions that will be a lot more fun than your local fast food joint.

9. Have yourself a movie night.

Spend some evenings watching movies with friends. Go see the midnight premier of the latest blockbuster or if you want to be real cheesy and nostalgic, go to a drive-in movie. But whether you’re throwing it back with the drive-in option or rolling with the true 21st century Netflix version, it’s always fun to watch a good movie with friends.

10. Catch a thrill on a roller coaster ride at an amusement park.

Ohio’s got a couple of great parks, and a day spent at any amusement park is a day well spent. Whether you’re into the tall, fast roller coasters, or the more subdued thrill rides, you should take the time to find a group of friends and strap yourself in. Don’t forget to indulge in some fried dough!

11. Spend some quality time with your family.

One of the most important things to do this summer away from OU. Your family doesn’t get to see you very much during the year now that you’re away at school. So spending time with them is now more important than ever before. It can be especially tough coming home after spending the year with a lot more freedom and independence, but your family will appreciate you spending the time with them.
