1. Drink more water.
Being dehydrated can ruin your concentration, skin, and energy. Save sugary drinks for special occasions and make sure you are consuming at least 8 cups (64 oz.) of water daily.
2. Stay active!
Being physically active improves your energy, sleep, physical performance, and reduces stress. You can get moving in several ways such as Zumba, yoga, weight lifting, or rock climbing!
3. Get. Sleep.
Sleep is for the weak, right? Wrong. Not getting enough sleep can lead to a number of problem such as wrinkles, poor mental performance, poor stamina, weight gain, and a poor immune system (meaning you get sick much more easily!) Make sure you are getting 8 hours of sleep each night, or at least napping a little during the day.
4. Eat more fresh foods.
We hear this piece of advice often, but it couldn’t be more true. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables allows us to get all the vitamins and minerals we need to stay healthy and look young. A good rule of thumb is to make your meal plate colorful by loading it up with a variety of veggies.
5. Respect yourself.
R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Caring for yourself and keeping a positive attitude toward yourself will improve the way you treat…well, yourself. Many scientists have proven that positive self-talk improves the mentality of individuals and their overall health.
6. Take the stairs.
Whether it is the physical stairs or metaphorical stairs, stop taking the easy way out of things and start embracing the journey. Taking the stairs will make you stronger, and prepare you for what’s at the top!
7. Cut the caffeine.
Coffee is a great pick-me-up, but caffeine interferes with your sleep quality whether you realize it or not. Try to limit yourself to 16 oz. a day, and to stick to decaf any time after lunch. This also goes with caffeinated soda, tea, or chocolate.
8. Laugh more.
Whether it be from spending time with friends, or watching a short clip from Ellen, laughing improves your overall mood and energy. Don’t be afraid to take a little break and enjoy yourself!
9. Get outside.
Nature wasn’t designed to look at from a picture on Instagram. Get outside and start enjoying it. Going for walks, hikes, runs, our just doing regular activities outside can improve your state of mind.
10. Wear sunscreen.
Most of us don’t even think about wearing sunscreen, especially when it’s not the summer. But some of the most skin damage and wrinkles are caused when the sun isn’t out but our skin is still exposed. Seriously, lather up.
