If you’re like me, words like “contour” and “blending brush” mean nothing to you. Makeup has always been a prominent aspect of women’s accessories throughout the centuries, but as styles and vary decade to decade, it’s hard to keep up. Modern day makeup has more or less become an art form. Seriously, don’t even get me started on contouring. But it doesn’t have to be as hard as the likes of Pinterest and Instagram make it. If you have absolutely no idea what you’re doing when it comes to makeup, or if you just need a few new ideas… here are 10 simple makeup tips that any beauty newbie can follow.
With those all-nighters raging on, you’re bound to get a few dark circles now and then. Use concealer to quickly vanish them, but make sure you apply the concealer correctly: an upside down triangle, NOT a half moon.
Add blush onto your cheekbones for a rosy touch! It is the simplest thing you can do to brighten up your face and give yourself a lovely, warm look! Use this diagram to figure out where you should apply blush according to your face shape!
By applying a white eye shadow base to your eyelids, this will make any color more vibrant. If you don’t want to go for bold colors use a neutral shimmer eye base instead. This will make your eyes really pop, but also leave a somewhat natural look!
Use a highlighter to draw an arch over the outer edges of your eyebrows and blend it in. This draws attention to the arch of your eyebrow which creates the illusion of lifted eyes!
Using an eyelash curler to really make your eyes stand out is one of the best simple makeup tips out there. Hold a blow dryer to the curler to give it some heat and clamp away. What’s the point of heating it up? Think about the curling iron you use for your hair – it wouldn’t really do much for you without the heat aspect now would it!
I’m sure you’ve noticed how clumps of mascara tend to get… well… everywhere. It sticks under your eyes. It messes up your eye shadow. It’s just plain unsightly. Instead of applying your mascara straight up, wiggle it so that the formula sticks to the lashes completely and doesn’t form clumps.
Black eyeliner can be too harsh for everyday wear, especially if you don’t exactly know what you’re doing when it comes to application. For a look that isn’t as intense, but still accentuates your eyes – go for brown eyeliner instead.
One of my favorite simple makeup tips to make your skin appear glowing and radiant is to highlight 3 key areas. Literally all you have to do is rub a streak of highlighter over the bridge of your knows, above your cheekbones and right above/below your lips. Be sure to blend a little so it looks natural. And of course, keeping your skin hydrated is one of the best ways to keep your skin glowing, regardless of what you put on it – so drink water!
To make your lips look a little bigger than they actually are, use lip liner to outline around the edge of your lips. Choose a color that matches your own lip tone…you want it to look like it’s part of your lips…not a frame.
If all else fails with these simple makeup tips – forget the rest and just go with a bright, red lip. By puckering up with a nice rosy shade, your face instantly looks more polished and ready to face the day.
