10 Signs You’re Obsessed With Australia

It all started with Steve Irwin… Flashback to 2006, I was home from school, sick on the couch, spending my day off lounging and watching reruns of The Crocodile Hunter. Up until that day I had never seen it but it was right after Steve Irwin’s tragic death so he was all over TV. This is when my obsession with Australia became all too real.

Whether you are watching TV, surfing the internet, reading a book, you simply cannot help but fall in love with all of the amazing, beautiful, and adorable animals who live there. I mean, who wouldn’t want to cuddle a koala bear all day?! Yes, I know about all the pizza-sized spiders that could kill you with just one bite-but hey, you win some and you lose some…

4. Australia is all that you talk about.

6. You become obsessed with the famous Aussie Heath Ledger and the legacy he left behind.

Fast forward to 2008 when Heath Ledger died, once again I was surrounded by news about Heath Ledger and his movies were playing on TV. After watching 10 Things I Hate About You my whole life changed. I watched every single Health Ledger movie ever made and learned all about him and his hometown of Perth, Australia. I was (and still kind of am) convinced that I was going to move to Australia and marry someone who was really Heath Ledger reincarnated (creepy I know) …

7. Each year for your birthday you ask for the same thing…to visit Australia.

Everyone that knows me knows how badly I want to visit there. Every year for Christmas and my birthday I would beg my parents to take me there but unfortunately Australia is a very expensive place to go and visit.

9. You feel as if you were born there in a different life.

I’ve always felt like something was just missing in my life, as if some part of my life is not being fulfilled and I believe that it’s due to my deep desire to live Australia. I know it’s crazy considering I have not even visited it yet but it’s as if I lived there in another life.

10. You are planning to, or already have, studied abroad there.

After ten years my dream of visiting Australia is about to come true! I recently just started working on my plans of studying abroad there in the spring of 2017 and I could not be more excited and grateful for this opportunity. I cannot wait to immerse myself in the culture and see as much of Australia that I possibly can. One thing I’ve learned is to always follow your dreams and never give up on them.
